Oooops... what's this? Another hurricane? Why this weekend?
I have lived in Florida 3 decades. I am 'used' to hurricanes. I am prepared.
But why this weekend?

Good news: it has slowed down so you have more time.
Bad news: it has slowed down so it has more time to become a stronger storm or a weaker storm.
Good news: because it slowed down, we have more time to figure out where it is going.
Bad news: because it slowed down, it has more time to change its path.
Prepared? Well, Kamala, it depends if you rent or own and how the building is prepared. In any case, you should have 5 days of food that does not need refrigeration. They always tell us to have lots of drinking water on hand. But in hurricanes, Frances, Jeanne, Wilma, Irma, and others, the Palm Beach County water never failed !
Best preparation is to make friends with someone with a whole house generator and well prepared house. A lot of the newer developments where electricity is 100% underground are more likely to not lose electricity. But some storms the entire county goes off for a few days.
For those of you not familiar with Florida, when I say "the entire county" you need to know that Palm Beach County, FL is more than twice the size of the state of Rhode Island.

oh... preparation....
MOST IMPORTANT !
They have a law now that no alcohol can be sold before the hurricane hits (I think it's 24 hours?) And alcohol does not need refrigeration! So buy alchohol FIRST before any other provisions.
Be extra careful in EVERY activity. Once the wind speeds hit some number (can't remember the number 40mph maybe?) NO help will go on the road. No fire trucks, no ambulances, no police. So a bad cut or a broken finger, or even a broken neck, everything will just have to wait quite a while until after the storm.
Books, magazines, playing cards - you will need something to do when your internet, telephone, tv, etc etc are down. If the storm hits 4 or 6 am one day and lasts 16 hours, you will be spending the night before, the whole day, and the whole next night all cooped up going stir crazy.
Night time hurricanes super suck and are a bit scary. But you would have been inside in the dark anyway. The daytime hurricanes suck because, well, it's night time, then it's daytime but your in a cave with no light because of the hurricane shutters, and then it's night and you have been in the dark for a long time. So if you are single, you better have a lot of books or magazines.

Time on earth is precious, time underwater even more so. Live life one day at a time. Dive your @$$ off!!!
