This is (I believe) a common mediterranean reef octopus, not one of the ones like we have in the Pacific Northwest, but this is a REALLY remarkable video....

I heart octopuses. They make me happy.

Hey Mac Man,

What are you opening this baby up with?

When I click on the link and download it, Adobe GoLive starts jumping in the dock but nothing happens. Are you using Windows Media Player?

OMG what an awesome video. :D How in the world did someone spot that thing. When we were in Roatan, my son spotted one during the day in the sand after a lot of people passed it the way back to the shore. He's good at spotting things but I doubt he could spot that one.

I totally agree. Octopi are one of my favorite sea creatures. They are awesome to watch, especially on a night dive. It's like watching some kind of psychedelic show.

Our firewall is blocking the video but they are fun to watch, in Fiji we had one show up on the top of the bommie at 15' and it turned into the longest safety stop of the trip!

Well...I can't access the video here at work as it is a blocked link due to nudity, etc... :lmao: But...while I was growing up in Hawai'i...we actually spent many a weekend hunting these guys on the reefs...so I am fairly adept at spotting these guys in their holes on the reef. There are a lot of tell-tale signs to look for when finding one of their hide outs...but for the most part...you have to have a sharp eye to look for movement and/or changes in color as you glide across the reef. It was always hard to just jab these guys with the spear when you ran across them because they are so inquisitive & those eyes are penetrating. Of course...the octopuses I hunted for only ranged between 1-5 pounds in size...not like the monsters on the west coast of the US. I can't even imagine poking one of those giants with a 6 foot Hawaiian spear...especially when you are free diving along the reefs.

ACKKKKK!!!!

:-D :-D :-D

I'm SO sorry... I didn't even notice that there were some links to adult content on the URL I posted until Kawika mentioned this above...

I was sent this link from a buddy of mine, and of course I just watched the video and didn't even notice all the other stuff around it... thought it was cool so I posted the same link here. :(

My sincere apologies!!!

ps... note that there's no nudity on the page, but there are links there to "adult dating sites" and such... :(

I hate to be the one to say it, but I'm wondering if that video has been retouched. That camo almost seems a little *too* good to be natural.

Not saying it's fake, or that anyone has to defend it, just saying that's *incredible* camoflage to be natural.

That rocked! Thanks for posting it.
Mongoose I was thinking the same thing so I had to check it out. If you enlarge it and run it frame by frame, It looks real to me. It takes a few times but you can spot the octopus from the beginning to the end.
