Hi, I'm a family practice physician in South Carolina.
CME credit is nice, but wouldn't want it to interfere with my vacation!
For those who mentioned the DAN course, I did it in Provo, T & C some years ago and it was great! Conference all morning and dive the rest of the day! But pay attention, they give a test at the end to prove they're real CME and not just a fake conference for tax write off. I had a different boss then, wonder if I can get my current boss to spring for the course again....?
I didn't notice the age of the post about how much of the day you have to commit to conferencing to deduct your trip, but I did a conference sponsored by the Medical University of South Carolina on a cruise ship in Alaska, and the total hours of the conference was 15 or 16, so no way do you have to do 4 hours daily to deduct it.

After long last. Getting back to this topic. Given the diversity of backgrounds of those who replied (thanks), the challenge of course will be to pick topics of interest (and use) to the most people. That may be travel/ dive medicine (including diving physiology and adverse event analysis), and some general resuscitation topics, maybe coupled with the Am Heart Assn BLS/ ACLS course and/ or Advanced Airway Mgmt course, since many of us require those cards for our work. We would not want to deal with 4 lecture hours/day, since it would greatly cut into diving and bar time. However, the costs of attending a CME/ CEU activity are covered by some companies/ health care facilities/ departments. That might include air, some hotel night costs, course registration fee, etc.
I'll be talking with Kamala more in Roatan in a few weeks, and see what we can come up with to get like minded diving health care professionals together.
