Oh, and I've discovered I can't take the extracts - I tried twice and they have a drugging like effect on me - I can't stay awake and I was sleeping right through alarms. I had the same symptoms about 10 days into taking them both times and both times the symptoms went away about 2-3 days after I dc'd them.

Now that is strange...I've never had anyone get sleepy taking concentrated fruits, veggies and berries. They contain nothing else and only water, sugar and salt has been removed. Do you have the same issue when you eat lots of fresh produce?

Hmmmm. Maybe one day I'll try eating lots of fresh produce to find out ;) I have been eating about 4 cups of fresh lettuce a day, and so far, no.

Wow, the things you learn cause you don't have a job and you're still getting over whatever stowaway bugs you brought back from a tropical vacation. ;)

Stowaway bugs,
Lets just say, I am still sick and have to take a sample to the lab for testing. Parasites I think. Yuck Yuck Yuck.

Kitty,

were you taking choroquin as an antimalaria drug because many of the side affects you had are those from that drug. I figured a little nausea & the rest is the price I might have to pay to avoid something much worse like malaria :P And I had to take one pill the week before, the week of, and 4 weeks after, so side affects should last 6 weeks (FYI)

Jellyfishluv,
I was taking a similar antimalaria drug and do think it may have had some side affects. But they did not show up until I had been taking it for 9 days. Weird. But......On another note I did drink the water a couple of times toward the end of the week to take my morning pills. Had to be the water.

I didn't drink any tap water. And again I only had a stomach two days after I got back.

The sickness might be from physical activity. If you exhaust your body over and over (uhm diving) then don't get proper rest, and your not used to this amount of stress you're body will make you rest.

There's also dehydration. How much water did you drink? How much alcohol did you drink? Remember Alcohol and cokes actually dehydrate you.

Yeah, all in all, I think I came back feeling pretty okay. Just barely got to rest up before I was on a 10 hour flight to Dublin for one night, hop over to Bristol on an hour flight for one night and then a 2 hour flight to Berlin Germany- 3 days later running a marathon! :taz: ....two days after that back to Bristol where I am settling but have lots to do!

I am burned out but its been worth it. And in the few spare moments I've had inbetween pub crawls and flights I like to think about all the fun dives I had at Fantasy Isalnd, all the fun people I met, and dreding the COOOOOLED English Channel for wrecks!

Thank you everyone at Singledivers.com for a great time  :) :)

Chris- judging from the fact that your symptoms and mine came on within hours of each other and we both drank the water "at the end of the weeK," I'd say it's a safe bet that it was the water! Didn't you get a cold on top of it?

Theresa,
I agree with you, it was the water and a combination of the diving stress, I did do 20 dives.

I got some kind of weird cough thing, not really a cold. It is a dry cough and as I teach I loose my voice somewhat by the end of the day. I did get laryngitis for 3 days. Still have something going on with it, gets worse at night and have the dry cough.

I hear you on the dive stress. I was so shot when I got home, I decided I needed a personal trainer to get in decent dive shape. If he doesn't kill me in the next few weeks, I should be in great shape for "winter" diving in Florida!

I caught a mild cold about 2 days before I headed home. I didn't drink the water except what was in bottles or pitchers, and managed to avoid any intestinal discomforts. I used DEET liberally, and even managed to minimize the insect bites. (On my previous trips to Roatan, I came back to the US with legs that were covered with nasty bites.)

This trip was a really great time!
The "pirate name" on my eye patch, was supposed to be a math joke... perhaps a bit too obscure. (Several people mentioned that they hate math. Perhaps they also hate math jokes.)

I didn't go to my IE. I figured I was better off at home for the weekend trying to get some rest and catching up on a lot of school work. An upper respiratory infection isn't conducive to scuba diving. I'll either do it in October, when I have a break, or I'll have to wait until December and go some where nice and warm to do it. I have over three weeks off then. My goal was to get it done before 2nd semester so I can teach during my 2nd semester.

I wanted to let all my students know that I have most of your cards. I will mail them out this weekend. I've just been really busy and I'm not too good at checking my postal mail.

I hope everyone is doing well. I should get back to some sort of work. There's always plenty to do.

:cheerleader:

I got my nitrox card in the mail yesterday. Thanks Victoria.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,

I had so much fun this past summer taking this dive trip with SD, and also getting several weekends of diving in in California, plus taking my Nitroxx course, but Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I spent way too much money!!!

I've settled into Bristol, and now I'm wondering how I'm going pay for all that fun since I can not work full-time, nor would I want to with a one year programme & disertation due by the end of next summer!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Just wanted to share my realistic frustration with ya'all. Hope everone is feeling better by now...from the bugs & such?

Did I mention I already need another dive vacation?

Know the feel'n me proud beauty. I miss the diving, and the friends. My major problem now is I scheduled the two big SD dive trips for 06 back to back. Now I don't have anything on tap until 12/07 (taking SWMBO to Oz !!!)

I second the frustration.
No aquarium, no tank in a marine land, however spacious it may be, can begin to duplicate the conditions of the sea. And no dolphin who inhabits one of those aquariums or one of those marine lands can be considered normal.

...and I to am still booking trips and dives (well nothing offical yet) but drysuit is on my list (and the purchasing of one) and deco proceedures...

I mean come on, I'm in the UK right?

Anyways, my trip to Exmoor and Lundy was a good break and I will be spending most of Nov. in Portsmouth doing things with NAS (Nautical Archaeological Society) How can I complain????? :P

A few photos form the trip, and yes, if you've ever seen BBC's show "Coast" that is one of the hosts - Dr. Mark Horton, our personal tour guide on Lundy and of the Bristol Harbour.
