And sadly Platyman is right...when a trip is billed as a singles week it seems to attract all the men and the women get nervous feeling the guys will be how shall we say...too zealous??? :)

Seeing as the responsible / respectful gents are in the majority, lets bring along some rope, a bag of extra lead weights and a chum bucket. Anyone who gets out of line will get to see what free diving to 300' feels like. The hammerhead sharks waiting for him on the bottom will be the piece de resistance...

Be careful of that 'White Knight Syndrome'; over the years I've come to the aid of many a damsel being subjected to what I thought was the most outrageous, uncouth behavior imaginable...only to be totally shot down for my efforts and later watch as said damsel walked off arm-in-arm with said outrageous, uncouth personage.

Lesson learned: Everyone has standards, just not yours.

You got that right PM. Have seen that as well myself, but won't comment further. I have done so many times in other threads.

This statement represents some of the utmost truth I’ve read here so far! It’s also one of the most depression thoughts I have on the dating scene.

NOW...several organizers have approached us to do a dating oriented singles week or at least one that is more focused on 'really meeting someone'...I am curious how you all feel about attending one of these events???

I guess it would have to do with how the event was being run. I wouldn't want an event that only focused on matchmaking(what if there wasn't a match for some?)

But it would be fun to have more of a focus on the parting after diving. It would be a tight balance, but it could work.

Fortunately I get the first chance to determine if said males are out of line...being a female I can more readily ascertain such. Then upon discussion with the female in question the decision is made as to whether there is a problem or not. Upon such determination I first talk to the guy myself and if there is still a problem I call upon additional reinforcements.

THAT is where you guys come in! :D

"from where I sit as a single,
I've run into similar "single functions"only to discover most were couples not married therefore single but each had a SO so there was a lot of jealousy if real singles were mingling.
Also many married men project themselves as single if there wife is "out of sight" he is a "solo" dive not a single diver.
WHERE does that put dive buddies that are of the same sex but dive together often but are not a couple
A lot of different situations, I personally think "single" means not attached
Non diving spouses are not enamored to find out that their spouse has a dive buddy of the opposite sex
I've seen single groups hold attendence to equal M/F, but with the resort running the show a different group could have a different balance
A lowerd price is a great incentive to join the group even if you don't fit the criteria of single

I think this is a crime worthy of castration! I have a hard enough time meeting women as it is. The last thing I need is a guy that hoards them! Death to the infidels!

Oh, and to women knowingly dating a married man, “He isn’t leaving her for you!”

Should all our trips be the same...i.e. for single and married but buddyless divers?

Or should we have some trips for single not married only divers?

What about couples only?

How about singledivers with kids only?

How about a singles trip that does underwater speed dating?

In otherwords...can we have different flavors of singles trips?

And can they be mixed with some people who don't exactly fit the criteria? And what happens if we limit it to only people who fit the criteria but when they book the trip they fit the criteria however when the trip came along they no longer matched??? (Think single when booking but involved when the trip starts....or involved when booking but now single when the trip goes.)

At singledivers.com we've never isolated anyone nor have we excluded anyone...we are an INCLUSIVE group that accepts everyone!

But statistically ALL our trips are 85-95% single not married. Not sure why...perhaps most of our membership is that or most of our diving membership is that but that is how it works out.

And our premier members can look at the profile of everyone on a trip and see if they are single, spoken for but buddyless or married but buddyless. :cheerleader:

I would think it would be nice to insist upon updated profiles prior to the trips and perhaps put the person's status on a name badge at the first get together. Full disclosure will help minimize embarassing problems. Other than that, if you could limit trips to single unattached, that would match my profile and would be great for me but I think it would be tough to really make work and fill your trips. If you can, great! But I think you run more risk of having more unbalanced (boy/girl) trips such as the Belize trip in April. And that probably will not work too well in the long run either. If someone is dishonest about their status, then that is their bad and you might want to exclude them from the future trips/events activities. Hard to be perfect.

Thanks for the feedback guys...I hope you'll continue to provide more!!!

1. So far I've seen some suggestions that we can try different flavors of singles trips and as long as we define them as such and keep them fun...they will work.

2. We've had a request for updated profiles...that is a great idea...we can always ask people to update their profiles so that they can better know the others on the trip. Some will...some won't. You can learn alot from the postings and pre-trip participation. And yes many of our new divers don't give us much to work with...but that usually fades after the first trip and they realize how friendly everyone is and how easy it is to fit into the group.

3. On the subject of disclosure...I find that if you let everyone know that everything that happens will be on the internet in about an hour usually with pictures and video that you'll avoid any behavior that doesn't want to be recorded for posterity. :P This is the simplest way to encourage people that the 500 mile rule does not exist...what happens someplace does not stay there...it comes home here to be shared with everyone else! :cheerleader:

4. Balanced trips...while we strive to have equal balance on trips it is not always possible. Sure the Belize trip has a few more guys than girls...but the Red Sea trip has 3x the number of women then men and the Australia trip has 2x the number of women then men. So while MOST of our trips are balanced without forcing them to be balanced...some are not. I guess you all are luckier than most...you now have choices!

Interesting concept... assigned buddy pairs...? Do a short questionaire on how you dive, experience, etc... (What are your deal-breakers....?!?) Say on a 7 day trip.., do that for the first 3-4 days, and them have folks fill out "requests" wo you want to dive with again... by day 5 leave folks to their own devices...

I would leave people to their own devices from day one. Telling someone who they HAVE to dive with might get to be problematic. I have said it before: It is harder to find a good dive buddy than a girlfriend. You don't trust your life to a GF in the first 10 minutes...

Men and women have been getting together without external help for quite sometime now. It will never be perfect, but there is no need to organize anything beyond the trip itself and a few generic social gatherings for the group. It will work or not work of its own accord. As long as the word "No" is respected there should be no issue(s).

I hate to quote Woody Allen but he did say, "90% of being successful is just showing up..." That's about right...
