What is a Single's Week? Single & Dating? Solo Travelers looking to save $ & have fun?

I was referring to the shark pic actually, not the avatar. Although that is nice too...

Ah, yes...forgot about that. I think those were nurse sharks. Our dive master dragged around a pvc pipe with bait in it, and they just swarmed around us. I don't know that they'd bite anything larger than a small rat, though. They were very friendly to us.

What does a "Singles Week" imply to you?

1. Only Singles will be there?
2. Only Singles who are looking to possibly meet someone for a relationship will be there?
3. Only Singles who are looking for a wild/crazy week of diving/other debauchery will be there?
4. Anyone who is traveling solo as in not with an SO or Spouse?
5. Anyone who is single, spoken for but buddyless or married but buddyless who want to enjoy a week of fun diving, festivities and great people?


Please help us understand what a single's week means to you???

For me, "Singles Week" implys like in most cases, that 1) Only Singles will be there (granted the organizer might not be single)

But as a single-diver, meaning I do not have a dive buddy I also think that for this industry "Singles Week" could imply 4) & 5) since solo-diving is frowned upon.

Considering this club is directed at 4 & 5 to begin with and one of the reasons I am a member, I have to conclude that by calling a dive trip "Singles Week" it is trying to imply that only single divers will be there but that does not mean it has to be Number 3- Only Singles who are looking for a wild/crazy week of diving/other debauchery will be there?

As a sinlge & buddiless diver I wouldn't mind 1) , 2) and 3) but I am not bothered by 4) & 5). (some of my best diver buddies are spoken for) But just because I'm single doesn't mean that 2 or 3 will occur.

Thank you girl! Great summary and I think what most people think. However we do allow ANYONE who by our defintion of 'single' to go on a Single's Week.

And trust me...since the focus is NOT dating then anyone going on the trip with the wrong motives will quickly be 'found out' and his/her meanderings will be broadcast all over the net with evites to all to view! THEN I will hand them over to the rest of yee pirates to have yer way with 'em.

And yes...the organizer is no longer 'single not married'...but she has been all her life until some 'chemistry' happened and the rest is history as they say!

I'm happy to hear that there are often more men than women on these trips!

I was worried that if I sign up for Roatan in September, I'd wind up on a trip with either (a) a bunch of people who are not actually "single," or (b) a bunch of single women (not in and of itself a bad thing, but when you're looking for something other than just new friends, well...)

It sounds like it could go either way numbers-wise, but at least most people apparently interpret "singles" weeks to be single, not solo divers. Now I HAVE to book!!

Want more MEN than women? Call it a Single's Week and its guaranteed! Somehow the word SINGLE'S WEEK seems to translate to LOTS OF SINGLE AVAILABLE WOMEN in men's minds and they ALL sign up for them far exceeding the number of women as a general rule.

As for ending up on ANY of our trips with people who are NOT single...you are more likely to run into the "non-single-but-single-for-a-week" kind of people ON trips billed as SINGLE's WEEKS.

And statistically 85% of our members are SINGLE NOT MARRIED...and 90-95% of our trip participants are SINGLE NOT MARRIED. So it is doubtful you'll meet someone hitting on you that is not actually available if you get my drift!

However discussions such as these and the reminders that people get when they post a dating type intro asking for gender of dive buddies to the exclusion of the other...are usually met with a post about who and what we are and how they will find more buddies of their preferred gender if they just focus on DIVING!

I think a singles week trip that perhaps offers some dive-buddy pairing meet-and-greet the first night would be great...perhaps you could do a "traffic light" style cocktail party, where divers wear colored name tags:

Red name tags = Solo but not single
Yellow name tags = Was single when I signed up, but not now OR single but not actively looking
Green name tags = Horndogs! (Err, I mean single and looking)

It also might be good to have the tag list the level/type of diving the person is qualified for/prefers to do.

This way people can meet others who are interested in well-matched buddy pairings, and make the pairings themselves, without any miscommunication about one person being interested in diving with someone else because they think they're single but they're really not, etc.

Sounds like a fun idea! I will certainly give this some thought!

As for inappropriate behavior by men towards women, I've never really been one of those women who has trouble dealing with that, and in fact, much like the WreckWench, I tend to step in and check things out if it looks like another chica is having a problem. But yeah, you just never know...some women actually do like that kind of behavior.

Yep...my type of gal...and basically just like ALL the gals that help with our trips! So rest easy gals and GUYS...play it cool. Let the women set the pace (and you'll find more on our site DIVING than most places) and the rest may just result in Chemistry! And if not...you just made a bunch of great friends AND you did some awesome diving!

Oh yeah...do yourself a favor and don't represent yourself as single-not-married if you aren't! Cuz if you do and we discover it...it WILL be all over the internet along with photographic evidence and THEN you get turned over to the rest of the pirates to be dealt with. To parapharse a popular statement....JUST DON'T DO IT!
