A singles week is where the entire resort is single not married or married but buddyless divers who wish to go and meet others like them while enjoying top notch diving and having an exceptional vacation! The resort's usually discount the week so that on top of fabulous diving you get a fabulous deal as well.

In 2007 two Singles Weeks are planned.

June 9-16 Grenada:

The first will be in June (June 9-16) with an add'l add-on pkg for our European friends or anyone just wanting to stay longer than a week. This will be at TrueBlueBay Resort in Grenada diving with Aquanauts Grenada. We have LOTS of activities planned that will share the lovely culture of the island as well as explore the wonderful diving that is uniquely Grenada! This will be an SD only Singles Week meaning that SD is the primary host along with True Blue Bay Resort and Aquanauts Grenada. We are expecting 40-70 people max.

Sept Labor Day Week Roatan, Honduras:

The second will be at Fantasy Island in Roatan. This will be FI's 4th year doing their Singles Week and it is over Labor Day weekend. We went as a large group last year with almost 50 divers from SD alone. The resort had over 100 making it the largest Single's Event of its type.

SD will be involved in both Single's Weeks this year and we are getting more details so you can plan accordingly. Both weeks are usually less than $1000 for the week and they are loads of fun! -ww

What does a "Singles Week" imply to you?

1. Only Singles will be there?
2. Only Singles who are looking to possibly meet someone for a relationship will be there?
3. Only Singles who are looking for a wild/crazy week of diving/other debauchery will be there?
4. Anyone who is traveling solo as in not with an SO or Spouse?
5. Anyone who is single, spoken for but buddyless or married but buddyless who want to enjoy a week of fun diving, festivities and great people?

Please help us understand what a single's week means to you???

What does a "Singles Week" imply to you?

If I were with someone I would not be going on a "Singles Trip" as I would understand that this would be for unattached divers exclusively. I know your board motto of "Our only hookups are to tanks...", but if you put the word "Singles" in a trip header then IMHO you are wanting just them. It suggests a more 'party' atmosphere and opportunity to mingle. I see nothing wrong in having these trips specifically as you certainly offer enough "regular" trips for the rest of the members here.

I don't expect an orgy or debauchery on a Caligula-like scale (Otherwise we would all be heading to Hedonism III). I am going for the diving. If I can meet someone at the same time then going on a singles trip certainly increases my odds of doing so. I chose to go on the Grenada trip as it has the Bianca C wreck and a good representation of singles for Après dive. Oh right, and I am single and looking too... :D
Remember, email is an inefficient communications forum. You may not read things the way it was intended. Give people the benefit of the doubt before firing back... Especially if it is ME...! ;)

I think people
mostly expect 1)
are happy with 4)
like the opposite sex to be 2)
are ok with 5)
hope for a 3) that does not exceed their personal comfort level

Put me down for 5) as long as they fully and honestly meet the qualifiers :D

So, even more so than on other trips, anybody that signs up for a singles week, should:
-be respectful of others (The golden rule and remember that everyone comes with different expectations)
-be open to meeting folks (I'm not talking about hooking up, but just about being open to making new friends)
-be ok with people talking to your travel companions (the 3rd person may not be hitting on your friend/relative. But that happens. If you or your companions cannot handle that gracefully, maybe you should stay away)
-be approachable, but be safe (No matter what an organizer says or does, there will be some aggressive people signing up)

A great part of SingleDivers.com being a non-dating site is that you meet all kinds of people in a relaxed setting. A singles week should just mean more folks are there without a SO, and better yet if the ratio of men/women is closer to even.

Great input so far! WOW! ASDMike...I think you just spoke for everyone with your reply! :D

PLEASE help us with your ideas. More and more resorts are approaching us to do singles weeks and events. We are trying to define them...afterall...ALL our trips are singles trips. (As we define them of course.)

The industry defines single as follows:

1. Someone who will have to pay a single supplement when booking a d/o package
2. Someone traveling alone (regardless of marital status)
3. Single's Weeks are for anyone who meet the above criteria...

NOW...several organizers have approached us to do a dating oriented singles week or at least one that is more focused on 'really meeting someone'...I am curious how you all feel about attending one of these events???

I think that the wider the variety of trips the better. Since members are single (Me--Personal promotion & advertisement!), spoken for but buddyless or married but buddyless there is a wide variety of trips that would appeal to the different members. So long as the purpose of the trip is clearly specified (especially if dating-oriented) there is good variety for everyone and each person can decide whether the specific trip meets their puposes.

Depends on two factors:

1. Is it someplace that interests me as a diver?

2. Is the price right for where I would be going?

There is a perception that I have acquired over the years that "Single's" activities usually carry a heftier price tag due to the captive nature of the group appealed to.

Oh--and just one third thing:

3. What is the male/female ratio for the event?

Far too often, things billed as "Single's" events attract far too few women to the venue IMX.

Sounds like we have some savvy Singles Travelers...

And sadly Platyman is right...when a trip is billed as a singles week it seems to attract all the men and the women get nervous feeling the guys will be how shall we say...too zealous??? :-D

Also some singles weeks/events have had problems in the past with behavior that not all women are comfortable with. That tends to make women shy away from these events.

OTOH...all our trips are for single not married divers...AND married but buddyless but as I've said many times before...our % of married but buddyless divers is very small.

So ALL our trips are basically Single's Weeks...and guess what? We average 40-50 women on them (some have notably more women than men on them...yes every man's dream) and a few are mostly men...usually the ones that involve sharks or artifact recovery! :)

I'm curious how this would work - would divers be required to fill out an additional questionaire on "who" they want to meet?
