My trip starts in the Am Trak-bus station in Houston, TX where ScubaPunk, ScubaShafer and Sparky103 picked me up. They all want to see what a hillbilly driver will do on the Houston highways, not realizing that I was an ex-wiskey runner. So we make it through the meets and greets in Freeport, where we meet the other divers, and despite all the fun we're having, the boat leaves on time. Karl and I are buddied up and he has brought some extended play equipment also known as high pressure 120 scuba tanks which will provide us more bottom time, but also can get us further away from the boat, and miss coming up on it. Yes (Karl and I had to face Melanie as we mumble excuses, she drives home the rules of the boat.) All we can say is "regardless of what happened, you're right Melanie". She says :cool1: " a little louder boys..." . "REGARDLESS OF WHAT HAPPENED, YOU'RE RIGHT MELANIE", as she smiles and then starts laughing, we find an opportunity to cut and run. We couldn't go far though, but all was forgiven. Karl and I had several dive buddies come with us and our extended play equipment. One was WW, Scubadew, and also TXStarfish. On one dive, Sparky came up to me and tapped his regulator with a peace sign signal?? So I point towards my octo, he shaked his said no then repeated the peace sign, I also repeated. He through his arms out in a New York/Italian manner "fagetaboutit". I found out later what he was trying to say :D I am not home yet, I am writing from a remote location with the help of ScubaPunk, so other members and I will provide more input and pics to come. I wonder if that bird made it home?

I know you ALL want to know if we saw

HAMMERHEADS....

Survey says....

YES!!!

Not sure how many some of the divers saw on the rig but they were there and those who could hang out air consumption wise were in for a treat!

There were also Silkies as well as Hammer Heads on that dive! -ww

I didn't make the trip but enjoyed the after trip HH. Great meeting those of you who were able to hang out and say hello.
It was worth the 30 minute drive and the $2.50 in toll fees (one way). :unhappy:

Next time the pool sharks amongst us won't be so lucky. I am planning on working on my game.
Be ready to loose a few games next time we meet. :teeth:

The trip was amazing! As usual a great time was had by all. Unfortunately, the devil spawn got me in a couple places and it is reappearing. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can put on it? I don't want it getting infected or anything and me winding up at the ER because I didn't take care of it. :teeth:

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I used some vinegar right away which helped a little (and made me smell like an Easter egg) but the pain eased throughout the day. If it lingers you might have gotten stung by something other than the devil spawn.

It subsided right after I got stung, thanks to the vinegar. And then the sting wasn't that bad, thanks to the meat tenderizer. But it seems to have reappeared, which means I am probably having some sort of reaction to it.

Victoria

I had the same thing on my lip as the stingers must have gotten into the skin rather then just ontop.

Beyond the vinger trick try this as well.

1. take some baking soda and make a paste out of it and put it on the effected areas this should help draw it out. Also you could add some ground up benedryl to it as well to come to try and draw things out from two ends.

2. try some hydrocortisone cream to knock down the swelling.

3. to stop; the sting quickly find a aloe vera gel with lidocaine in it and that will numb everything to get rid of the irritation for a couple of hours

I'd post a couple of my pictures, but I'm having huge issues. Technically challenge. :bam:

I also lost my avatar trying to put a new one in. So it may be next century.

I would like to first Thank WW for providing such fantastic diving opportunities for SD like the Spree going into the FG, and then Thank the Spree guided by Captn Frank and Company which offers..

1. Safety First scuba diving with its top notch crew and staff.

2. Fun

3. Fun

4. Fun

5. Quality food and plenty of it.

I really enjoyed meeting my old dive buddies again and making new ones, I would have never guessed that the Sea in the FG would have been so gentle as far as current on this trip. I think most of us divers where able to maneuver around the coral heads, sea floor and walls just by using a flutter kick or frog kick. There was plenty of Fish and Sea Creatures of every make and model to either look at or take pictures of. I saw several shy sharks just hanging around in the background watching us as we dove. It wasn't all diving and fun tho, we where just setting down for dinner when Captn Frank saw and oil rig catch fire and the next thing we knew the crew was pulling up the anchors and we started heading towards the burning oil rig as fast as possible to see if we could be of some assistance to them if they needed rescue or ?. We went about a nautical mile when the Captn got information that several other boats in that area where heading towards the rig and they where alot closer then we where so he turned the boat around and moored up to the buoy again as if nothing had ever happened. I also got stung by the jelly fish things but Melanie was fast to point out that "its just the Sea fighting back". I have taken over a hundred photos during the diving and I am working on salvaging some, apparently I didn't have the settings on my camera set right? o-well it happens. I really appreciated Karl Scubafantic for taking me to the Dark Side of diving with that HP Al100. I was able to stay longer at the bottom plus with those gentle currents I was able to log some pretty awesome Bottom Time :bam: TY Karl. The Spree is moving to the Dry Tortuga's next year and I think I just might join them on a few trips in there new home, after all Captn Frank said I have a record on the Spree now ? not sure if that's a positive or negative thing :birthday:

Hey, guys! WW talked me into joining the board and I thought I'd start by saying hey to the folks who sailed the Mighty Vessel Spree to the Flower Gardens. You were a great group of divers.

First, let me relate the sad news that our little buddy the green bird did not survive the voyage home. I found him after the passengers had cleared the dive deck. I wasn't able to determine exactly what happened, but those little guys have such a tenuous hold on life it's amazing he made it as long as he did. I've been trying real hard to identify him from memory, but a few good pictures of him would really help me. I'd like to find out how far out of his range he was.

Oh, well, soon I'll add actual info to my profile and intro myself, but until then, keep blowing bubbles!

Some of our divers did get pictures of the bird...we had hoped that he had flown away as we were closer to land. Its sad to hear he did not make it. :teeth:

Thanks for joining our motley crew...and I'm sure you'll fit right in! I'm guessing you've been able to explain to your wife that we are not a dating site...our hook ups are to tanks!

We enjoyed having you crew for us and you did a great job filling the tanks! If the Spree/Fling give you any time off you might want to bring the better half along and join us on one of our other exciting adventures some time! (We usually even give discounts on some trips for people who will sleep together!) :cool1: And in your case it would be a natural! :thankyou:

Jump in and test the waters...and welcome again! -ww

I have a great picture of our little bird friend, unfortunately, I can't upload them. I am thinking they are too big, but I have no idea how to resize, etc.
