We get asked this question a lot. How is SingleDivers.com different from other online scuba forums? Please share YOUR thoughts on this question for new members coming to see us for the first time! Or for existing members who have never figured it out yet as well as to remind everyone of what we truly are! :thankyou:

Here is a post from Scott aka Cmdr. Clownfish answering basically that question to a new member here!

HA!!! Oh so your full of jokes you'll fit right in with this crowd.

I'm looking forward to it! I've found divers, especially wreck & ccr divers, to have this deliciously macabre sense of humor and I love it. I need to poke around the forums more when I don't have 3 exams and a paper due in the next three days, but i'm wondering what information i'm better off finding on SD as opposed to scubaboard.com (the other diver forum that I read).

Well first off, this board is more of a social area for divers as opposed to the high adrenaline dive dive dive and don't waste my time with anything else style of scubaboard so you can basically be yourself here and not worry about being flamed by 18 people in 5 minutes . That is nice. The members vary from experienced tech divers to newbies but almost everyone gets along. Want to know something? Just ask a question and you'll get fair answers. There are tons of threads already out there. If you'll note... the forums are called Surface Interval because that is basically what its like here. We're just people hanging out shooting the breeze between dives waiting for the next chance to go diving. Some threads are just jokes, some are about being single, and a few are about the superbowl... but most are about diving and generally people are respectful. Just keep in mind that sooner or later all the people that post eventually meet each other in person so being anonymous doesn't really work for long here. That kind of makes the dynamic a little different than scubaboard.

Welcome aboard, personally I'm an engineer and I seem to get along ok so surely a physicist can also. Hey, you might even get my jokes :) You are off to a good start, thats for sure :)

  • We can ask questions and we get answers, not insults
  • We can make mistakes in our posts and we get help, not insults.
  • There is no "type" of scuba diver on SingleDivers.com - there is every kind of diver.
  • There is no disrespect for the abilities of newer divers.
  • Afficianados of another aspect of diving do not try to convince others on the forum that their choice is best.
  • There are no "anti-PADI" or "anti-NAUI" arguments !
  • No split fin arguments or insults.
  • No backplate / wing arguments.
And these points are ones that I just suspect might be a factor (it is not possible for me to know if this is true since I am male).
  • Women divers can hang around the SingleDivers.com forum without feeling like they are meat.

:iagree: with what Alan said!

You are welcome to your opinions and no one will denigrate you for them.....but you may have to explain why you believe what you believe, just to help educate us!
We have discussions here, not arguments or insults. To that end, we do not allow discussions of politics or religion on our site. Other than that, feel free to broach any topic!

All very good points made above, but let's not overlook the obvious...the number and diversity of dive trips that SD.com offers. It blows the others out of the water.

Well not apart of the originals, I have recently celebrated my sixth year on this site. My personal observation is that there is a true genuineness to the members that participate on the board. Specifically, it is not in how we wish members a Happy Birthday even if they're not active, or how we welcome new members to our community, but if there is someone experiencing difficulty in their personal life and they ask for prayers and support, many are quick to reply, even if you have never met this person face to face. For me, that alone sets this site apart!!

I do not see intense debates about gear configuration and specific piece of equipment. Also, there is no public bashing. The forum is much more positive than others.

:thankyou: A conscience effort was made to prevent those problems. Public bashing is against our rules as are any intense discussions where respect is not adhered to 100% of the time. We can have passionate discussions about anything but they must be supported and they must be respectful.
