Blue Hole is where I did my I ow cert dives in (gulp) 1984? It was snowing when we surfaced! Lived in Denver at the time. I was young &cold didn't matter...

Blue Hole is cold, but the morning dives are great visibility compared to a lake I suppose. Plus, there are crawdads and goldfish. Next class though, I will pick something in a nice tropical location! :)

Did my OW at the Blue Hole in March 1982 - we put one of the first platforms in. Was snowing and cold, imagine that!!!! Luckily my first real diving was Grand Caymen that June!
My LDS just doesn't know why I won't go dive there with them :teeth: !

As you know you get a free shirt on every trip... but we are pretty much out of these. Maybe I can get them re-printed in time for Bonaire... will work on it! ;)/>

Let me know if you want a quote on that print job! :lmao:/>

When I teach in our local lake, we either have 40 degree water with 40 foot viz or 80 degree water with 4 feet. Either way, there are drawbacks, especially since I don't have a drysuit! Let's just say my teaching schedule slows WAY down during the winter time. It would be nice to have a quarry or something similar here in AZ. Good thing San Carlos is so close, because I abandoned California ages ago...I'm a wuss & old. I'll admit it! :teeth:/>

Blue Hole also is very unusual in that it is at high altitude, and you have to wait several hours before leaving because you climb 1000 ft heading home.

I would like to try CA diving for the sealions though. Guess I should dive cold before I become a wuss! Posted Image

Hey, Amy! PLENTY of sea lions in the Sea of Cortez!!! Plus, during certain times of year, the water is in the mid to high 80's. Very friendly, very accessible & they inhabit virtually every island down there. Sometimes, they can become a little too curious. I've had females dive bomb me for entire dives swooping on my tank valve, huge bulls chase me away for getting a little too close (though I don't harass the wildlife, EVER) & juveniles steal my tank banger right off my tank.

We have a similar situation when driving home from San Carlos, as the altitude increases fairly rapidly between there & Nogales. For that reason, on our travel day home we only do one dive in the morning & it's limited to 40 feet. I usually just skip that one.

Hope to meet you some time on an upcoming trip!

Saludos.

Diving the Sea of Cortez and Mexican Baja with Kamala several years ago, the sea pups were like little puppies, tugging on our fins, my blonde hair that escaped from the braid and my yellow hose covers. On a night dive, they found a poor puffer fish, got him all riled and proceeded to volleyball with it! Was lots of fun to watch. They do provide entertainment :teeth:

Cool, looks like a local trip would be in order! For me, it is just as quick to go to Hawaii as the Caribbean, but I haven't done anything close at all. I don't really want to go to Mexico by myself. Already a bit concerned about the safety down there.

Hey, Amy. The stories reported by the American press regarding travel to Mexico are GREATLY EXAGGERATED!!! I've been going down there from 2-12 times per year since the mid-60's. As I've stated on this site, before, just as in anywhere else in the world, including the good ol' US of A, if you are looking for trouble, you are going to find it!!! I don't dwell in the border cities & avoid travel at night, just like I always have. What the people of Mexico need most is our patronage. Unless you are a Coyote or Narco, chances are that you will never run into an issue down there. Of course, there is always a possibility of getting caught up in some random act of stupidity (just like on the streets of Chicago or Anywhere, USA). Let us prove it to you!!! We'd love to show you how safe Mexico really is, as a general rule.

I agree with you that it is easier to get to Hawaii than the Caribbean. However, it's like comparing apples & oranges. Both are great, for different reasons. The water temps & macro-fauna are what draw me to go East. I never pass up an opportunity to dive in Hawaii, however, even though it tends to run quite a bit cooler there. Ya just never know what you'll stumble upon...

Hey girl...I'm losing it and this is my own website. HERE is the official thread. This was a break out thread about planning the HH for the show. I'm going to close it and direct conversation to HERE since we are very close to the show and need to lock down details. I'll also xfer all posts that SHOULD be in the AZ Show Thread/Topic.

Thank you for calling my attention to the confusion. :respect:

Hey gang...lets use this topic for planning the AZ Happy Hour in conjunction with the AZ dive show coming up Sept 21-22. ALL SHOW DISCUSSION SHOULD BE HERE!

What we find is people who can be there on Sat would love a get together on Sat night and peple who can be there on Sun would love a get together on Sun nite. Since we have to eat BOTH Nites...we've been doing an informal HH and Dinner BOTH NITES!!!

So lets pick a place near the show for Sat nite's HH that is walking distance to the show.

On Sunday we will break down the booth and then grab food. Its usually not a late night but I prefer dinner again to be near the show so people can capitalize on the parking they have paid for (or good parking spot they have) vs dealing with a lot of cars.

Thank you for helping us lock some venues in! :cheerleader:/>
