So if you travel any amount beyond say 1-2 times a year, the first time you show up at the wrong airport or have a hard time finding where your new gate is or which baggage claim to tell someone to meet you at, you'll be thrilled with the features and functionality of today's flight and travel apps. I've always used TripCase and I love it! It always shows and notifies me of any changes or updates. I can email myself my itinerary in a nicely formatted form (to forward on to SingleDivers 
). It gives me my timeline in an easy to read format, has seat maps, airport maps, weather forecasts for all locations, alternate flights, airline phone numbers, and many other desirable attributes!

Kudos to Google Flights for overall info and almost instant flexibility when you change your parameters. you can look at things in infinite numbers of ways, calendar, price, the usual: duration, stops, monthly trends...... It will share flights to others (and yourself) and keep watching and alerting you. Especially easy if you have a gmail address. Also will take you directly to airline site or Orbitz, Expedia and others etc. to buy.
Hopper for keeping tabs on when a flight you're looking at is at its optimum buying moment (the app works much better than the web version which is far more limited and keeps suggesting you avail yourself of the app (I have Android, so I can't speak to iPhone)
Tried Tripit, it does work, but if your plans change it's not easy to change details on there..... some kinds of trips work better than other, like car trip to FL Keys....
