I'm sure the cruise ship has diving excursions, but I'd prefer a "no-nanny" dive operator.  Any recommendations?

No aquarium, no tank in a marine land, however spacious it may be, can begin to duplicate the conditions of the sea. And no dolphin who inhabits one of those aquariums or one of those marine lands can be considered normal.

I've been a couple times, my daughter lives in Kihei [Maui], but still haven't dived as much as I'd like.

On Maui, I suggest Lahaina Divers, probably the biggest operator on Maui and more economical than others. Unfortunately, they will not vary from their scheduled dives, and won't allow you to dive Molokini back wall on EAN [afraid you'll get caught in down current].

On Big Island, I suggest Jack's Dive Locker in Kona. The night manta dive is great, and if your other half wants to, she can snorkel it. Also, they have a black water dive, a night dive, clipped onto a 50' down line, watching the plankton go by. Again, they have a specific schedule, but are more willing to work with you.

When are you going on your cruise?? My daughter [PADI DM] knows many of the shore diving sites, and her future husband [wedding is Oct. 8] is a former boat captain for Lahaina Divers & PADI Instructor. I believe he still is a relief captain for LD.

Are you in town [Big D]?? There's a happy hour this Saturday, Aug. 20, 4pm at Flying Saucer in N Dallas and the Wench will be here.
