Hello MaldivesTrip Goers!!! Please introduce yourself (even if you have been on SD trips before) so we can get to know you better before showing up to dive together! Not that divers really need many introductions but one of the really cool things about our group is we do get to know each other a bit before meeting in person! And its so much fun to say "Oh you are WreckWench or You are Cajun Diver!"

So please take a minute to share a little about yourself!  :thankyou: Kamala

Ok I'll start.....

Hi I'm Kamala aka WreckWench!  I found the club by 'founding' the club! Ok so I won't quit the day job to become a stand up or sit down comic! ;)

I've been diving since 1994 and have become addicted to scuba so much so that I quit my day job to become a scuba bum full time.  Now I mainline diving as often as I can and love meeting fellow divers who love diving as well! :wakawaka:

Not only am I going on this trip, but I will be your trip leader and personal hostess!  :cool1:

Welcome and please introduce yourself as well ! :thankyou:

Hi Everyone,

I am Patty, (PK), alias N.J. Turtle. My name suits me because with all my gear on, I am slow and clunky on land, but glide like a turtle under the water!

I love nature and animals and I love being in the water- three reasons why I started diving back in 2000.

I love to travel, am not a foodie, but know beers and wine pretty well, lol......

This will be my fourth live-on-board,. I am looking forward to being with you all on WEEK ONE of the trip.

Godspeed!   :wavey:

Hello fellow divers,

I'm Sandra, aka DiverSandra. I know, not a very original alias, I'll put that one on Kamala ;)

I've been diving since 1990 and take as many trips as my job will allow each year. Of course, that's never enough.

This will be my second trip with single divers and I'll be on the two week trip.

Looking forward to meeting new friends and catching up with old friends.

Hello all,  I'm Kathy aka little mermaid.    I have been on numerous trips with Kamala and SD and have loved everyone of them.  You might see the moniker on the "Happy Birthday" greetings, my little part to help continue the positive attitude of SD.   I love to dive and am practicing to be a mermaid in my next life :teeth:

My Christmas present to myself is a new underwater camera outfit so I can take some really awesome pictures.  Don't know if I will be celebrating any monumental milestones, but will have close to 700 logged dives.

Started diving in 1982 and didn't start logging dives until about 2000 when it really became a requirement with the LDS.

Can't wait for this trip, although it is in the middle of snow skiing season

Looking forward to diving with old friends and meeting new ones :cool1:

I am on week 2.

Hello week 1 divers, I'm Libradiver aka Marcia (pronounced Marsha, like the Brady Bunch 😆)

I live in Maine, but have been diving in the Caribbean since 2013. I've been on 1 SD trip, so far. I've never been across the pond, so this trip is a big leap! Also my first time in a liveaboard.

I look forward to meeting all my new friends.

Watching it rain, (which is rare here in Southern California),  and dreaming of week 1 in the Maldives...  Ok I'm back.  I live about 1.5 hours East of LA, I have been diving about 10 years I think, I've lost track. Since learning to Dive, is there any other kind of vacation, nope!  I live for the liveaboard experience!  I stopped by Dubai on the way to Raj Ampat 2 years ago, it was too hot to enjoy.  So I am stopping by there again this time, the weather should be cooler, if anyone wants to check things out prior to heading to Male on the 24th, let me know.  This is my first SD trip, although I am always a single diver, none of my friends or family think this activity is the least bit entertaining.   When not diving I am an Orthopedic Surgical Nurse, and find great joy in being with my 4 grand children that have to occasionally bring along their parents. I look forward to a great week one in the Maldives.

Hi everyone!

I'm Karen, aka SmilingDiver. I've been diving since the late 90's and still love it. Living in south Florida, I am lucky to be able to dive all year - but I love to travel so like to find new places to dive too. I've been on three single divers trips and have had a wonderful time on all of them.

I usually do fish ID for REEF, but they don't have a way for me to submit data, so I will be spending my time learning how to use my camera!

The Maldives have long been on my bucket list, so I am very excited about this trip! This will be my second liveaboard. I'm on week TWO and can't wait to meet the new folks and see my old friends too.

My little mermaid in training... I never knew why you chose that name but watching you in the water...it now makes perfect sense!  And yes you embody the friendliness of our awesome group of divers by keeping our birthday greetings going even in the wave of social media and other venues that vye for our attention! :thankyou: and I have so much :respect: for you!!   :hugs:

I'm also excited about your camera and hope you can catch a few shots of me since I'm always on the other side of one myself! ;)   I too have lost count of all the trips you have done with us...1-2 a year for a long time but NEVER LONG ENOUGH!!!   I can't wait to see you!!

Hey Marcia... so happy you are going across the pond with us for your FIRST trip on the other side of the world! :cool1:  And Holly and I will have a blast with you in Dubai week #1 before heading to MLE.  You will have a blast meeting new friends and they will have a blast meeting you! We already have a 'sunshine diver' aka Karen who happens to be on Week 2 and aptly wears the name but you could easily bear the same moniker as well. :teeth:  See you soon!

Each summer morning, when I was 8 years old in a southern Minnesota farming community, I would eat breakfast and roll up my swimsuit and towel, strap it onto the handlebar of my 24 inch red coaster bicycle, and ride the gravel farm roads 8 miles into town to take swimming lessons at Tourtellotte Pool.

I still have vivid memories of the cold air on my face riding those empty roads in the early morning hours past corn and soybean fields, thinking about how cold the water would be, but how I loved the 8 AM swimming lessons.

As my swimming ability progressed over the summer, I advanced into deeper water, eventually reaching the 12 foot deep end, where we were introduced to the heavy black rubber covered brick weights to be retrieved from the bottom of the pool.

The black rubber brick weighed no more than 5 pounds, but I was a skinny little kid with no buoyancy, and try as I might, I could not swim up with the brick.

Every morning as I rode my bike into town, I had visions of successfully bringing the brick up and as I rode home each day, I carried my failure back home with me.

I failed the last advanced swimming class that Summer and each Summer until I was 11, when I had grown some muscle and was more buoyant; but I never gave up or became disillusioned in my dream to retrieve the brick.

This past year, while progressing through the PADI Divemaster course, I broke several toe bones in my left foot.... it was painful to walk, to stand, to wear shoes or fins, and to propel myself through the water; but I remembered the cold wind on my face riding my bike into certain failure each morning and not giving up.

I pushed through the pain and achieved my Divemaster certification last November in Bonaire.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This will be my Second SD trip, following a St Kitts trip. I'll be on for both weeks and will enjoy seeing the top and bottom of Maldives dive circuits.

I'll be spending 2 days at the Hotel attacking my jet lag and look forward to meeting you then.

Personal regards, Nick
