Hi there,

I'm Penny from Ontario and I just got my Open Water certification (SSI) last week in Cuba. I did a "Discover Scuba" 2 years ago in Mexico and fell in love with diving, and finally took the plunge to get certified.

The moment I fell in love with diving was when my "Discover" instructor took me through a small arch filled with largish fish all facing the same way (don't know what they were - I have so much to learn). They calmly parted for us. I felt like I was a part of a whole different world, I almost couldn't believe it was real.

I'm mostly interested in warm, not very deep dives (although I realize that may change), to see pretty coral and fish and other marine life. I would love to dive with Whale Sharks. I would also like to eventually get into photography as that is something I love on land.

I'm hoping to join a trip next fall/winter. In the meantime I'll probably attempt some shallow wreck diving near my home (when we thaw out) - I'm fortunate to live near a premier place for wreck diving in Ontario.

Hello Penny and once again welcome to our global scuba club! :welcome: I see some early bird members have already chimed in as well. Regarding your post, I highlighted some of your plans and preferences to mention the same Media Luna week in Roatan included in your welcoming email message fits the bill perfectly! :wakawaka: Here's hoping as the time draws near you are able to make your first trip with us one of the most popular "The Wench" :blond:  offers. Meanwhile splash around the Forums to see what the current buzz is; we are always just a post or email away if you have any questions... :diver:

P.S. We've heard from other members up your way what a great wreck dive resource the St. Lawrence provides - a little chilly for most of us thin blooded Yanks   so we admire your commitment and enthusiasm for diving all the more!

Welcome !

Cuba?   Wow...  most USofA' ns dream of going there.   Kamala managed a way to make a trip that was legal for USofA ns to dive there, but I didn't try hard enough to make my work life accommodate it in my schedule.

There are plenty of us in Florida on Singledivers.com   (did you notice that Kamala runs a trip here nearly every year?)   Yep, here we think that 72 F water is very very very cold.

I had a few business trips to Richmond Hill, ON, a few years back.... I tried real hard to finagle some extra time so I could try diving Lake Simcoe, but never did make it happen :-(

Hi Penny! I was in Ontario long ago when I was a lot younger but not to dive. I'M working on finishing up my open water certification the first weekend in April at homestead crater in Utah. I just finished my pool skills last weekend. I hear it is very warm in the volcano so it will be like the caribbean! LOL.

I am taking the Bonaire trip in May and working toward getting my advanced certification while I'm there.

I went on discover scuba trips in Grand Cayman and Cozumel in December and got hooked like everyone else it seems.

Work always gets in the way of life but it's a necessary evil if I want to make trips with singledivers or my local dive shop.

Welcome! Hope to meet you on a trip in the near future.
