It was almost a flip of the coin Philippines or Thailand as first "real" international dive. Philippines won. I am figuring on a two week trip. One week in and around Cebu, Oslob - Moalboal, then other areas. The second week was planning on Puerto Galera. That would give me both whale and thresher sharks. However I am starting to wonder if I should not rethink the Puerto Galera after reading about different problems in the area e.g. power outages, raw sewage, beaches becoming trashy. Would love to hear suggestions.

Hey Welcome back! We had no issues with our vendor in PG and would be happy to help set that part of your trip up for you. We were there in April and had a fab time with NONE of the aforementioned issues. Let me know if I can set your trip up for you and help you save money!

Hello John -

Spent a month there, Feb/Mar 2016, a week in Dauin/Dumaguette, 2 wks on Siren [Cebu>>Dauin, & Tubbataha], and one week in Anilao.

All destinations/dives were great. Oslob whalesharks were my first, but beware they're on welfare [the local fishermen decided they could make more $$ chumming them for snorkelers & divers rather than blaming them for their reduced catch]. Still, there's nothing like coming face-to-face with a whaleshark!!!

But, when I decide to go back to the Philippines, I will return to Anilao. NUDI-S, NUDI-S, NUDI-S, plus pygmy s.h., rhinopias, blue ring & mimic octopus, frogfish, just to name a few.

There are many more destinations in the Philippines which provide excellent diving, some of which are not found in your favorite scuba mag. You made a great choice in picking the Philippines for your first real international dive trip, it is the northern tip of the 'Coral Triangle'.

Good luck on your trip - have fun - be safe

Bill
