I haven't read all 6 pages so I apologise if I'm repeating what others have said. When I'm diving OC air I always put in deep stops (just a minute) and then follow accepted advice for a slow ascent. I always do a stop of at least 5 minutes at around 20', and try to take a further 5 minutes on the final ascent to the surface, never less than 2 minutes. Yes, you have to have good control over your buoyancy, and it's much more difficult in choppy water. I don't surface more rapidly just because there's no-one else down there (unless a big shark is showing too much interest, that is).

By the way, isn't "NO" Nitrous Oxide, not Nitric Oxide?
