IMPORTANT UPDATE:

This event was a OMS PhotoShoot that SingleDivers.com was invited to join in and participate to wear OMS gear, dive with OMS Pros and maybe even end up in an upcoming Dive Magazine. I have just spoken with OMS and sadly they need to postpone due to a number of extenuating circumstances. Sadly John Griffiths the owner and many of the core OMS Staff will no longer be able to participate Nov 9th and 10th.

In light that it will no longer be a private event, we have two options....

1. We can cancel entirely and reschedule for another date

or

2. We can book individuals on Conch Republic to just get together and dive.

If anyone is still interested in doing these dives PLEASE let me know asap.

I am not sure that OTWDiver will be able to join us yet or not. If he can not then I can not since he is my ride from FL to SC.

We will also email/pm those that said they were interested and/had not cancelled to see your input. Our volunteers are a bit busy right now so hopefully you'll see the update in the thread first.

Thank you, kamala

THIS IS FIRM FOR NOV 9th and 10th, 2009! FULL DETAILS TO FOLLOW SOON!

Hey OMS one of our partners has asked if we want to do a diving/photo shoot for future catalogs...anyone want to be a diving star*???

WHAT:

We are looking to combine this trip around the Diving Equipment & Marketing Association DEMA tradeshow Nov 4-7, 2009. We'd use the 8th (Sun) to travel 5 hrs to Tavenier so we can dive the Speigal and Duane/Bibb or other great locations. OMS really likes to have shots of their gear on wrecks...so this will mostly likely be wreckdiving where possible with some reefs vs mostly reefs with say one wreck.

WHEN:

We are tentatively scheduled to dive the afternoon of Nov 9th for 2 boat dives and the morning of the 10th for 2 boat dives. This allows the most flexibility with lighting...site crowding issues as well as accomodating flights out the 11th or people getting home the 10th if driving etc. (While not officially setting anything up...Conch will certainly book you for afternoon dives on the 8th if you want to dive then...or even am dives.)

WHO:

We are looking to dive with Conch Republic divers in Tavenier and would rent the entire boat which holds up to 30 divers. We would not put 30 divers on due to extra photo gear etc. but we can get some discounts if we get enough people. (Remember we'd be renting the entire boat so are having to pay for x number of spots anyway.)

LODGING:

We can also get a good rate at the REALLY NICE Ocean View condos nearby (1.5 miles away) which have either 1 room condos or 2 room condos. Each 2 room condo has (1) room with a king/queen and one room with 2 single beds and each room has a bathroom or 2 bathrooms per condo. Each condo also has a kitchen, living area and washer/dryers. The living area has a pull out sleeper so for about $140 + tax you can easily sleep 4 people up to 5 or 6 depending on couples vs singles.

DIVING:

Diving is estimated to be as follows:

2 tank dive $80 retail (12-25 people $75 but remember we will rent the entire boat for our group so no other than us on the boat.)
Tanks and weights are not included but can be rented reasonably for $TBA
Nitrox is normally $16 per tank but we can get it for $15 per tank (price of rental tanks includes air...not sure what air fills are but will check.)
Price of air fills $TBA

*OMS is gladly looking for interested models to dive both single and doubles configurations wearing OMS gear. Preference will be given to those who own OMS gear or willing to rent it. Sadly photos of divers in non-OMS gear can not be used. These photos will be used for future OMS product catalogs...and its not hard to be a dive model...its only hard for the photographer who has to make it all look good!

ARE YOU INTERESTED?:

Are you interested in joining us? Wanna be a DIVE model? Interested in being a photographer and getting published? Let us know...we'd love to have you! :P

I have an OMS wing, shroud line cutter and O2 reg.... is that enough to dive doubles???

I'd like to go - but will need to lose 80 pounds of ballast before they'll put me in a picture - unless y'all want to carry spear guns - "SD chases the great white whale"

No aquarium, no tank in a marine land, however spacious it may be, can begin to duplicate the conditions of the sea. And no dolphin who inhabits one of those aquariums or one of those marine lands can be considered normal.

IT would be a choice between this and the Cozy trip. Not sure I could pull of both so close to Thanksgiving. I wouldn't be at DEMA, but with my parents in south florida, visiting would be an option.

So that's why you chose young, hot, thin divers for your shoot on the Spree? You hadn't learned photoshop yet?

Umm that wasnt my call that was the creative directors call. That and sex sells in the market place if you dont believe me look at that latest cressi, tusa and scubapro ads.

Oh trust me my photoshop skills are very good as you have seen some very good examples of it, you just dont know it. Im a good retoucher but im not a magician. The best photoshop jobs of all are the ones that you cant tell what was done to the image. I prefer a natural look to the plastic fashion look that is so common in ads today, I will do it upon request but its not my preference for my personal work.

Truthfully Cozy is better diving and a SURE THING! This is still in the planning stages and is subject to cancellation before it even gets off the ground. I do not think that SD can fill the boat and I am relying on OMS peeps to fill at least half the boat. However as said before...its contingent on getting a photographer and several other things falling into place...

OTOH...they may blow off the photoshoot and just dive.

Great if you'll be at DEMA anyway...too early for Thanksgiving...and not as good as Cozy...

but that's just my personal opinion.... lol! k

I am definitely interested in this. I am even willing to dive and be photographed in OMS gear (and look good doing it ) as long as it meets my personal requirements for the type of diving that we will be doing. Either singles or doubles are OK with me.

A slight correction though - the condos are actually called Ocean Pointe Suites, not Ocean View. I stay there often myself (3-4 times per year) with groups, and they are really nice - well appointed, full kitchen and washer/dryer in each unit, etc.

This should be a lot of fun if we can manage a large enough group. Brenda and Gary are the best, and I am sure they will handle everything with their usual level of professionalism.

Suhweet! Right now we are still discussing while I await how many spots OMS will need. Once we know we can open the rest of the boat up to SD.com which I think will be the lionshare anyway! However for those who are interested...we will get to hang with the OWNER of OMS John G and that will be a blast!
