Prairie Diver and I (I wasn't nervous) are looking to put together a little diving and a Happy Hour up at Lake Okoboji - Northern Iowa. We're looking at the weekend of Sept 24, 25th. If you are interested please post here or PM me. Prairie Diver, if you can get a chance to scout out a place for the HH, let me know.
Here's the Midwest chance to have our first happy hour and start telling stories instead of listening to the fun they had in Dallas, etc. . .

I will find a place... Minerva's - Kinbrae Steak House - Gepetto's - The Warf - Boji nights - Whiskey Dicks - The Ritz... What logistically do we need... A table and chairs and a place to order drinks and food? What... Give me some parameters to operate within. Casual - formal - parking lot - beach - what... I have never been to a single divers happy hour so I don't know what to pattern it after... that stuff that goes on in the PNW and in Texas haven't been there done that so need some help here. Let me know.. Jay

I would say casual, food and booze, throw in a couple of tables and some chairs, and we'll be cooking. :thankyou:

Not sure what part of the Midwest you all have in mind...but Mishelle one of our Angels :thankyou: also wants to organize a HH in the Midwest as well. Unfortunately my geography of what all constitutes the MidWest is a bit lacking...please forgive if you are not all in the same area.

I think its great you want to do a HH! Let me know what state or area and we can help get the word out to the members! -ww

Lake Okoboji is in North West Iowa close to the borders of Minnesota and South Dakota.
It's about dead center in the block of Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North & South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa. So it depends on how far people want to drive to dive.
(Jay, we might want to look at having it at a hotel lounge - or give out the names of nearby hotels.)

Lake Okoboji is located here on Map Quest (zoom in on the red star)

Lake Okoboji is known for being one of three blue water lakes in the world and I hear it's supposed to have some interesting dives - hopefully Prairie Diver can shed some more light on it's diving .

I can head East (now I've got "Never Been Any Reason" going through my head) for a Happy Hour, and I don't mind losing in pool, as long as I can recoup it in cards. :thankyou:

I would have loved to join you for this event, but I have plans that weekend. Normally that would have been a great weekend for me, but one of my hunting buddies finally got drawn for moose hunting in Minnesota. So we had to move our annual grouse, walleye outing a week ahead. Which turns out to be September 23rd to the 27th. Sorry.

Lake Okoboji is known for being one of three blue water lakes in the world and I hear it's supposed to have some interesting dives - hopefully Prairie Diver can shed some more light on it's diving .

Some diving oportunities on West Okoboji Lake include: The Tower (a water intake structure for the city of Arnolds Park and or Milford) It is wooden structure tower that is in about 35' of water or so and is 20' tall. There have always been Small Mouth Bass within the tower and a few walleyes around the base. Pillsbury Point - a very rocky point that extends along way out into the lake. It has some adjacent deep water structure in the 90 to 115' range. Always fish off the edge and some large boulders on top and side of the point.
Other activities: there is an amusement park, the Queen Mary, parks, dancing, allot of other opportunities too.[URL=http://www.vacationokoboji.com/2002/index2.html]

I think I'd be able to make it that weekend. How cold does it get in September?

This sounds like a lot of fun! What's the vis like at Okoboji Lake? Y'all are safe this time, but don't think just cause you're half way across the country the Punk won't come and crash your party! Let this be a warning to Happy Hour planners nationwide. If you plan one around a place where diving can happen, don't be surprised if I show up on your doorstep. :teeth: :teeth:
