Hey gang...let's face it...we are a 'wired community' and even when we travel we need to be connected if at all possible. Yes I know we are technically on vacation but often that vacation approval was subject to being reached while traveling 'just in case' either by family or work.
So what are our options for traveling and connectivity? I'd like to compile all the options that our creative divers have used to stay connected and list the pros and the cons as well as approx costs for each solution. This will be a great primer for other members as well.
Thank you for your contributions, time and effort to discuss this really important topic. Kamala

While I have not yet tried this and it may not appeal to those of you who do not have an ipod touch, here is an amazing practically free option for talk and the ipod touch will also connect to the net-- http://www.nytimes.c...e.html?emc=eta1

For travel inside the US, I typically carry a Verizon MiFi. It's a tiny little box the takes the cellular data service from Verizon and creates a little WiFi hotspot that can support up to 5 devices. It means paying for a verizon data plan, and it doesn't work outside the US, unfortunately.

While I find getting on the internet anywhere anytime to be one of my major compulsions - I find the best dive trips are where I'm somewhere so remote I'm cut-off from the race.
So - I think I put seeking the best deal on getting connected while on a dive trip to be close second to the best underwater cell phone.

No aquarium, no tank in a marine land, however spacious it may be, can begin to duplicate the conditions of the sea. And no dolphin who inhabits one of those aquariums or one of those marine lands can be considered normal.
