DAN Equipment Insurance Question

This question applies to both the rescuer and the rescued.
On a related note--what about gear stolen while in transit at an airport, since it appears that we might have to start packing everything away in checked baggage?

I have no idea about the ditching of gear. I think (though I don't know) stolen gear might be covered. Don't rely on me though. It's been a while since I checked into it.

Does the DAN equipment insurance cover dive gear jettisoned because of an emergency, such as a rescue/recovery of a diver?

...so I called Senn Dunn, the Equipment Insurance carrier for DAN and got the following answers from them directly:
Ditching of gear in a rescue situation is NOT covered under the policy;
Theft from checked baggage IS covered, provided that you file an immediate claim with the airline and forward a copy to them; I suspect (being a 'belt and suspenders' type) that also filing a police report and copy over to them wouldn't hurt, either.
Good to know info for the future.

Please note that DAN Diver is a part time member to our site and is trying to reply to all the questions that arise as fast as he can. When we ask general questions he is more likely to be able to respond quickly. When we ask a detailed question it takes a bit more time.
REALLY cool on getting the answer and replying for everyone's benefit!

I think more clarification needs to be found because how the following coverage is written would lead me to believe gear lost in a covered diving accident would be covered....so I called Senn Dunn, the Equipment Insurance carrier for DAN and got the following answers from them directly:Does the DAN equipment insurance cover dive gear jettisoned because of an emergency, such as a rescue/recovery of a diver?
This question applies to both the rescuer and the rescued.
Ditching of gear in a rescue situation is NOT covered under the policy
DAN's Preferred Plan covers:
$250,000 (per occurrence) coverage for all covered in-water skin and scuba diving injuries occurring at any depth+, plus up to $15,000 in accidental death and dismemberment benefits resulting from a covered diving illness or injury++, and up to $15,000 in permanent total disability benefits resulting from a diving illness or injury++ incurred at any depth.
$10,000 (maximum lifetime benefit) coverage for eligible charges from the treatment of non-diving accidents outside your home country.
$10,000 (maximum lifetime benefit) coverage for injured person's losses incurred for trip cancellation before departure.
$5,000 (maximum lifetime benefit) coverage for injured person's losses incurred for trip interruptions after departure.
ALSO, you receive additional coverage with the Preferred Plan: if you're involved in a covered diving accident, DAN insurance will pay up to an additional $3,000 accommodations, $2,000 airline ticket and $2,500 lost dive equipment coverage, to ease the sting of these incidental losses.
Plus up to $100,000 DAN TravelAssist benefits*.
+ DAN coverage is secondary coverage. After any other coverage you may have, DAN pays up to 100 percent of reasonable and customary costs of all remaining eligible expenses.
++ This benefit pays for accidental death and dismemberment or permanent total disability caused directly by scuba diving independent of all other causes.

I did find out that the Master plan doesn't pay a dime if you get sick on the dive boat before you get in the water.
By all that is wet, I do hereby swear, (politely), and attest, upon pain of never diving again, (real or imagined), that I understand and affirm, that I agree to the above.
