Carry-on Compass?

I'm having my Dad bring it over when he comes to visit and gave him strict instructions to carry the regulator in his carry-on, however I just realized.... the compass (like nearly all dive compasses) is liquid filled. Has anyone tried to carry on a liquid filled compass since the new regulations for carry-ons went into effect mid-august?
Thanks for any input you can give me!

Yes. Two trips, no problems, and they really looked at my gear. Like me, they probably didn't think about the compass being liquid filled. Ignorance may be bliss. But to not lose $50, you might want to pop it out of the console and check it.So after nearly a month without getting wet and my gear being 3,000 miles away, my scuba gear is going to be in my hot little hands by the end of this week!!!!

Only problem I've had so far was leaving Roatan, security decided my backplate was too much metal, and escorted me back to put it in my checked luggage. Go figure.

Exactly what I was going to suggest.Like me, they probably didn't think about the compass being liquid filled. Ignorance may be bliss. But to not lose $50, you might want to pop it out of the console and check it.

Both coming and going, there was a little excitement when it went through the xray machine and they saw all the hoses, valves, etc, and the square thing (computer / console). They ran it through twice with me standing there saying it's my dive regulator - open it. In California there was a TSA officer who was also a diver did just that...opened it, smiled and said "have a safe trip." Texas just kept moving it back and forth under the xray...then finally peeked inside.
You shouldn't have any trouble...I think they're looking more for things that you can open easily like lotions, creams, beverages.

I did that once and all I remember the guy saying is, "...it's a tube and it has wires coming out of it..." Needless to say I had to educate the TSA guys about the light--and nearly missed my flight I was running to catch!
Cool about your gear...now we can go diving.

Just make sure he doesn't run up to the TSA folks late for a flight carrying a cannister light.
