As I posted on the thread for the July Flower Gardens trip, we will have a pre-trip get-together before the boat shoves off, then a HH after the boat returns. The following is a reprint of my original post, I just decided to start a thread of it's own ....

1): Before the trip, on Sunday, July 15, we will all meet at "On The River" restaurant located across the street from the boat dock in Freeport. Two years ago, we got there at 6:00, we could meet before then since it is on Sunday. That will be the pre-trip party.

2): After the trip, on Wednesday, July 18, since most everyone flying in and out is doing so out of Bush Intercontinental, we will have the July Houston HH at Derrick's Saloon, located within the Doubletree Hotel Houston Intercontinental Airport. This is expected to start around 7:30 pm given that the boat is due to arrive by 5:30 pm and it will take about two hours to get to the airport area (remember, it will be a weekday afternoon and you will be dealing with Houston's famous rush hour traffic!) Note: You can get around the Houston traffic by using the Sam Houston Tollway, it will cost a total of about $5 to get to the airport.

For those of you who will be needing a place to stay for the night of the 18th, there are three properties within walking distance to the Doubletree, all under $85 per night, and close to the airport. They are ...

Airport Inn
Country Inn & Suites - Houston Intercontinental Airport
Sleep Inn - Houston Intercontinental Airport

There is also a fourth property which is under $85 and near the airport, however it is on Will Clayton Parkway at the other end. You would have to drive or be driven over there. I will list it ...
Hotel Marquis - Houston Intercontinental Aiport

Hope this is a help. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions as I know that area well.

I did mention using the Sam Houston Tollway to get around the Houston rush hour traffic (or at least, the worst of it). Here are my recommended directions ...

1): Take Hwy-288 north out of Freeport to Beltway-8 (Sam Houston Tollway). You will still be south of Houston.

2): Turn right (heading east) on Beltway-8.

3): Stay on Beltway-8 all the way around Houston to JFK Blvd. Along the way, you will pass through three toll booths, one just after you get on Beltway-8, the second just after you pass over I-45 South, and third after you go over the Houston Ship Channel. The first two toll booths are $1.25 each to go through, $2.00 for the Ship Channel Bridge, total of $4.50. Once you get past the Ship Channel Bridge, there are no more toll booths you will have to go through but you will pass over I-10 and Hwy-59 on the way there.

Here is a map you can refer to.
Houston Toll Road Map

4): Take the exit at JFK Blvd and turn right. Once you are on JFK Blvd, you will find the Doubletree as well as the Airport Inn, Country Inn, and Sleep Inn all within one mile.

If anything changes, I will post it here. I know it is still some five months until the trip but I thought I would post it now.
