I should mention that this was a tandem jump - I was just along for the ride.

Actually, I wasn't crazy about the free fall. I don't think I was fearful, just that the wind in my face kept making me feel as if I wasn't getting enough air. Once the chute opened it was fabulous! This was on the north shore of Oahu so we could see the mountains and the ocean. The humpbacks are in now so I was on the lookout but didn't see any.

I have to say the value isn't there compared to scuba. You pay around the same for a plane ride as a boat ride but the "dive" is six minutes versus an hour. Also the equipment is quite expensive.

So I'm glad I didn't LOVE it. Otherwise, another expensive hobby. I always wanted to try it, though. Kinda freaked out my Gen X nephews that their old auntie did something like this. As with scuba, the IDEA of danger is more than the reality of it.

Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome. I hope to get in on a trip some day. Look me up if you make out this way.

A tandem skydive seems too much like a "trust me" follow the DM SCUBA dive. I'm philosophically against the concept.

Hey Becky. Happy birthday and welcome! Jumping out of a plane for your 50th birthday!?!?! That's great! All I can say is you must have good knees. I'll be lucky if I can jump out of my socks by then, the way I'm going. Went skydiving for my 18th birthday, and again for my brother's 30th, but those were a couple of knee surgeries ago. Must've been amazing to have that incredible view while floating to the ground.

Keep diving, whichever kind you like!

Sorry, buddy. You may feel like you're flying, but you are falling. If you like it, enjoy. It's not my bowl of cherries.
