Fred Vogt, a fellow Aikido practitioner, and Author of See Sally Kick Ass. Fred is also high ranked in Karate. Will be holding a Women's Self-Defense class on March 31 from 3-6. He'll Cover Increasing Awareness, Problem Avoidance, Escaping Grasps, Effective Strikes and Kicks, and rape prevention. He's taught this course on many different levels and is very qualified.

The cost is $20 and will be held at my Dojo 1045 Pruitt Road Spring, TX (Right off 45 and rayford/Sawdust). PM and I'll get you his phone number to RSVP

Fred's book covers travel and self defense I'm sure if a number of students mention being in my dive club and traveling aboard he will go into further detail on this aspect..

This is a great idea! Too bad it is in Houston... Somehow, I think it might be a little far to attend :cool1:

Hmm, I would actually have to remember some of my karate training from 15 years ago?? Eek!

Of course, who needs self defence when you have the ultimate 15" high ankle biting machine to protect you?

I prefer something with a little more meat on it than that...

Of course a 3 pound kitten could take mine down so no great deal of protection... Unless I was assaulted by a piece of bacon in which case he would be on it like a shot... :cool1:

You could always fly down and catch some of sea space while you're here! (ok maybe not) I do consider Self defense extremly important...

This 3 hour class would give basics that anyone can do.
Effective striking,
escaping grasps,
awareness.
and more.

While I'd suggest doing more then just a 3 hour course this is formatted in a way that will help you in most situations.

I very highly recommend the NRA's "Refuse To Be A Victim" class. You can read more about it, including classes scheduled for your area, here:

what breed is that ankle biter? because i dont like being bit as its worse then being beaten or slashed.

one thing i learned from the crew im on rotation with at the fire department is that a high heel with a underhand softball through in the right spot will stop just about anyone.... they know this because they had to pick a person who got "pitched" the guy needless to say was hurting big time. they said thats one of the best moves they had ever seen to disable a attacker.

Well, one could argue that he is actually a calf biter :) Before you ask, no, he is not a fox. He is a Shiba Inu. They are one of the traditional Japanese breeds and are related to Akitas. Yes, he thinks he is an Akita - don't tell him he is only 15 1/2" tall...

And stupid me thought NO worked fine. J/K...every one should take a self defense class. Mine was in the Army. I think that was a little too drastic for most though :P

I wouldn't say extreme. I just don't see the average woman carrying a fully automatic gun in their purse :lmao:
