Don, I am working on the PM issue now. What time zone are you in and what time zone was the sender in?

Cheers.

I'm Central, can't say about the sender then - not sure who it was.

I just got almost immediate email notice one a PM, so maybe you got it...?

Edit: Almost immediate notice on last two PMs...!

thanks

Thank you Simon aka Shadragon. I'm sure that after working your magic that if people refresh their cookies and/or try again it will work for most. In the past sometimes the issue was on the receiver's ISP side. They too take time to deliver things. I know swbell and sbcglobal can be very slow. My hotmail and yahoo accounts are worse. :wavey:

I think that swbell, sbcglobal, hotmail, and yahoo have all become about the same thing. It's fun to poke fun at Aol, but everytime I try to use my sbc/yahoo accounts or Flickr - I like Aol better. Just have to know when to ignore their ideas, i.e. Mcafee antivirus and Aol antispy are unfortunate jokes.

OOoops - problem back!

The two PMs sent to me at 1:17pm CDT have not generated an email notice by 2pm Central.

Edit: Now 5:22pm Central, no emails on PMs after 4 hours...?

Hehe, and you're clock is 5 minutes slow. :flirt:

Actually the email header tells you a lot. Great thing to include. You can see the sections I highlighted above. You have to read it from bottom to top as each email server adds a line to the top of the header as it goes through the various servers.

The first time date stamp is when the SD server sent out the email. It went to midphase.com at Tue, 24 Jul 2007 18:27:17. It sat there for a few hours and was then sent on to the AOL MX server, before being sent onto the actual mail server at AOL seven seconds later. So the culprit in this case is communication between midphase and AOL. As you can see from this link here they are having quite a few server issues with one on the 24th saying it experienced a 4 hour delay which matches your time stamps. This was not the same server number in the header, but AOL does not publically post server issues so it could be their fault and midphase was just waiting for the AOL MX server to come back up to deliver the email. In case of delays, email typically retries delivery in 1, 2, 4, 8, 12 and 24 hour times so this could be the case as well.

If you read the EULA's for Hotmail, Gmail, AOL, etc. you will see none of them guarantee delivery of email and they state it may be delayed, lost, folded, spindled and mutilated on the way. People go after their email servers with attacks all the time for fun. Unfortunately, once it leaves the SD server it is subject to the ups and downs of the Internet and the odd delay may be unavoidable.

Cheers.

Shadragon

PS. Time differences will not account for mail delays. The time of the server is simply recorded on the header before being passed on.

Ok, thanks. I've used the email Details to find senders' IPs and expose Nigerian 419 frauds before, but that's about it. Just happen to think to include them here...
