I was browsing the web today and found a site called otterbaysuits.com that custom makes a mermaid wetsuit with a built in mono-fin. (I'd paste the full link here, but I don't know if that's allowed). In theory it sounds like a cool idea, but I think in an emergency situation, having your legs bound together could be a serious problem. They have some videos on the site of a woman in the suit snorkeling, scuba diving and pulling herself back on the boat... I thought the diving and returning to the boat looked awkward... The snorkeling video actually looked pretty graceful.

For beach entry they recommend your buddy carry you using a fireman's carry... I guess this is when you'd find out who your real buddies are!

In case you folks are wondering... no.... I wasn't considering buying one of these suits! But I thought it was an interesting internet find!

Unless the link is to an *ahem* adult oriented website, there is no problem with posting a link like that. Please feel free!

Interesting. but the hood and weight belt kind of take away from it. I wonder if they have just a lower half, which could be worn with a bikini top or seashell top for a more realistic look.

I make my own tails, and did a few UW photo-shoots with Ed Papp, the "Mermaid Hunter" of Key West, back in '03. A few highlights can be found here

When in doubt, PM me the link and I will make up my mind whether it is *ahem* adult or not...

Well that's pretty cool, I didn't expect a reply from somebody who has actually done this! The reflection shots are pretty cool... It looks a bit like a Howard Schatz style photo!

By the way, why do mermaids wear watches?

Cheers!

Strange. I couldn't see any type of bc/wing - which would explain why she was all over the bottom and using her hands like that. She would fail my open water class. lol. Interesting, but I can't imagine why anyone would want to use one. It just looks inefficient to me. The website bills it as "sexy". I'm all for looking sexy, but I think I'll save that for the surface interval. :cheerleader: Plus, any guy I'd be interested in would be more turned on by my buoyancy control skills than mermaid fins. :cheerleader:
As for me, I'm feeling pretty scubalicious.
