I have noticed over time that everytime i talk to to people about Photoshop or any post processing techniques it seems like it goes straight over there head at about 100,000 feet or its like its a black art that is impossible to learn. If i took photos off peoples facial expressions during these conversations it would be close to a Anne Levowitz book.

I have been working with photoshop for almost 10 years(and photography even longer then that and doing my own handprints) now and it has come along way back from version 3 which is what i started with, along with that technology has vastly improved making image capture much better (Lets leave Film Vs Digital debate out of this). What photoshop helps me to do when working with photos is amazing as i have been able to save photos that normally would be trashed, then i have used it to the point where i have bent reality to the point that you wouldnt recognize the original image. A good example of what i have done in the past is similar to this ad for dove that is on youtube.

With that I know that Photoshop it self is not the most intuitive editting software on the planet that seems like it is impossible to learn, but once you know some of the basics it can make a very big difference in the quality of your images coming out of your camera. Then when you take on Underwater photos it takes it to a completely different and more complicated level when dealing with color, backscatter, etc

Reason im posting this is that in the past year i have had several people ask me about helping them with basic photography as well as editting and Im wanting to see how much of a demand there is out there for such tutorials and/or seminars. I dont have a problem with doing one-on-one or group sessions ranging from half to multi-day classes/seminars.

So let me here what you want and I will customize it to the needs presented.

Hell yeah , I'm always willing to try and pick someone elses brain for ideas. I just got a new version of PS, don't ask which one cause I don't know, and really need to spend some time and learn it. Thats always been my problem: TIME.

Bob

would it happen to be CS3 or Elements 5? (if thats confusing >$200 or <$200). What are you wanting to learn? then how much knowledge do you have about photography? do you know anything about darkroom techniques like contrast, dodging, burning, etc

I think its CS3 but not sure on costs cause I just happened upon it if you know what I mean. I need to spend some time with it, maybe Sunday.
I took a B&W class back in 86 and did some darkroom stuff back then.
Not sure what I want to learn cause I don't know how much I don't know.

well depending on the interest this thread generates I could put together a seminar at BTS on what ever topics that are of interest to the group.

Your poll didn't offer the option to skip #3 even tho I wasn't sure what you meant.

And please don't use acronyms - I have no idea what BTS is? Or if I sound ignorant there, I'll back out quietly.

I have thot about upgrading to a paid PS, but afraid I'd get lost.

Yeah I know: I've been branded a non-group person - doesn't play well with others. I am so upset. Posted Image Let me know if you want to have some fun, without the drama - I'm good for that.

In the Poll UW was for Underwater, and BTS is for Beneath the Sea show that Singledivers will be attending and have a booth at the end of march in new jersey.

basically the poll was asking about interest in me posting step-by-step tutorials on how to do/use various tools in Photoshop as well as photo editting techniques.

does that help?

Bob

do you know what the following terms are and how they relate to a image (contrast, Dodge, Burn?)

also CS3 = Creative Suite 3 the latest version of Photoshop.

Then Don have you thought about Photoshop Elements 5 (I think thats the latest version) as it has about 80% of the tools in the full version but for like 1/5th the original price

Don't worry Don, BTS is a Scuba show comeing up in March in NJ. BTS stands for Beneath the Sea. Its probably the largest such show in the country.

I have the step-by-step about 90% done, i just need to spell check it and post it. Will be probably monday afternoon as i work a 24Hr shift tomorrow and wont have my laptop with me.

The image used in this example is one that many of you will recognize of a forum regular you might say, but once i got ahold of it i took it to a whole new level :teeth: to make it look much better.

Sassi - the ex-us (Clone) tool example will be shown in this step-by-step.

See yall on monday
