Well, my hometown airline about a week ago announced new fees, including $100 charge to bring any scuba gear on a plane, whether its was check in or carry on..

So I posted it on a local board, and an email campaign started.
Today, the following came through..

We’ve listened to our consumers. We’ve changed the contract of carriage (copy attached) as follows:
SCUBA – Removed $100 fee
One bag which may include fins, mask, knife, snorkel, regulator, safety vest, spear gun, pressure gauge, tank harness, empty scuba tank (with the regulator valve completely removed).
NOTE 1: Smaller items such as fins, mask, or snorkel may be packed within the passengers standard baggage.
NOTE 2: Knife, spear gun, and tank must be checked.
COST: Free – packed within or in place of one FBA
For tickets purchased on or after June 10, 2008: excess, overweight, and oversize fees will be assessed as applicable
It always seems like these companies just keep going after us with no thought to the impact to their business. Well, here is one that listened. Given that they are the only local airline to me with direct flights to the Caribbean, this was an important step. Glad to see they changed their mind.
