Im sorry to be the one to let everyone know, but Brian Howard AKA Wildcard here at SD was killed on the 8th of this month.
I am copying the email I received below.
Brian accompanied us, and entertained us all with his antics on our Australia trip this past December. He was also my personal dive instructor on that trip. If you never met him, you missed out on a caring and entertaining personality. He will be missed, and fondly remembered.
Here is the email;
Hello.
I am forwarding a message to you on behalf of Brian Howard's mother, Ruby Howard. She is a friend and co-worker of mine. Ruby got your email address from a message Brian sent to all of you and to her recently. She wasn't able to figure out how to "reply to all" recipients, so I offered to send the message for her.
Ruby wanted to let you know of Brian's tragic death on Sept 8th at his home in Homer, Alaska. Details are in her message below.
Understandably, she is devastated. It would comfort her greatly to hear from some of you. You could email her at penrynjayhawk@sbcglobal.net if you have a few minutes.
Some of you may live in Homer and may have already known about this. Since Ruby doesn't know who each of you are, and wanted to let as many of his friends as possible know the sad news, we are sending this email to all who were email recipients of Brian's message to his mother.
Thank you.

To friends of Brian Howard. Brian was murdered on September 8,2008 in Homer, Alaska. He was trying to save the life of a 13-year old girl whose mother was threatening to kill her. The mother shot Brian and then killed herself. The child is physically unhurt, but emotionally traumatized. At this time she is in foster care in Alaska. The world will never be the same without Brian. He will always be in my heart. Ruby Howard =Brian's mother. penrynjayhawk@sbcglobal.net

"Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for a friend."
My prayers are with his mother and family. How unselfish he was! The world will be less of a place without him.
I hope his mother can take comfort in the fact that his death was not in vain.
