Boston Dateline - A working fishing boat was lost a sea last night east of Cape Cod, 3 crewmen found alive, search still in progress for captain. After reading this online, I just stumbled upon this article while surfing a non related question online. I suppose we can relate diver strandings to this information.

I have a tube of dye tucked into the pocket of my 'safety sausage' inflatable surface marker (along with a chemical light).

So so so so many divers laugh at me when they find out I have it. I think I paid $7 or $8 for that tube of dye and I will pleased if I never need it.

I wouldn't laugh at you. Where did you get it?

I see lots of people that carry die markers and chem lights. I am a believer in safety gear..... I personally carry a wreck reel with a heavy line an a 100 or 200lb lift bag....almost always. The closer you stay to your original position the better off..... If lost on a wreck, pop a bag and tie off to the wreck...do your hang under the bag. if diving a ledge or reef tie off to the ledge. If there is nothing to tie to, pop a bag and do your hang...then attach your weight belt to your reel and drop that...

Both OMS and OxyCheq have tubes of marine marker dye for divers. You should be able to get them through any dive shop carrying those lines.

I keep my dye tube (from OxyCheq) in the pouch on my DAN surface signal marker, along with a marker light, signal mirror, and space blanket (which you can cut into ribbons and tie them together for another highly-visible and radar-reflective streamer, as well as use for shelter from the sun during the day).

My article, "Survival for the Offshore Diver," is scheduled for publication in an upcoming issue of Advanced Diver Magazine. This article addresses how divers can build and carry a survival arsenal for diving activities. I hope that you will find it informative.

Where you get everything else... ScubaToys, of course... :birthday:

But if you are going to do it right, go big or go home... Try this on for size. It has dye and so much more... You may need a bigger cargo pocket to carry it though. :birthday:

If your local dive shop does not stock tubes of dye, perhaps you could suggest that they do.

Its only 5+1/2 inches long so it fits in the mesh pocket quite well.

It's shorter than a chemical light and a bit thicker. (thats what she said)
