To everyone:

As i have alluded to several people in PMs and on a couple of threads I haven't been doing to well for about a week now and been out of work as well. This all started a week ago Sunday when i noticed a zit (not saying where, but i wish it where my face and not where it was) and popped it, and didn't think anything off it until it started to hurt a little bit on Monday night. Well Tuesday I went to work and as the day went on i got to be hurting more and more that certain positions where next to impossible to get comfortable enough to work on patients or write charts. Well i pushed through it including driving a organ transplant harvest team, No i didn't drive the leg going back as we had to run code 3 priority 1 (Lights & Sirens and lots of diesel) and I knew i couldn't handle that as I was hurting to much (yes i do know my limits when it comes to that and I'm not going to risk anyone's life). Anyways we got off that organ harvest at 9 am (shift change is 7am) I handed the on coming medic the keys and went straight home and passed out with a heat pack on the now much larger zit.

Well that afternoon I couldn't handle it anymore and I really didn't want to go to the ER as i spend to much time in them at work, but my primary doctor was gone for the day (gee wish i could leave work at 3pm). Well at the ER I got back pretty quick considering they where at saturation (I think my employer and my profession had something to do with it). Well I got taken care of very well of and was given a good amount of pain medication and a separate health dose of antibiotics. After all of that was in the Doctor made a incision and removed a fair amount of infection, and said that it was between the size of a baseball and softball for area effected and if i had let it go a day more i could have ended up in the ICU for septic shock :D . That was a shocker as i didn't think it was that bad, boy was i wrong. Well since then i have been laid up and on very powerful antibiotics and pain killers (which is something i rarely take anything stronger then advil for anything) which i had to back off of because they were messing with my mind.

Today I had my second follow up appointment and the doctor is not happy with the way its draining and healing so i was referred to a surgeon that specializes in wound care and treatment for a reeval, and have been told that i can expect to have it opened and cleaned out tomorrow. With that news even though its not official yet till i see the surgeon, but im probably going to be out of work another week maybe more as I really dont heal that fast.

Tooth

P.S. Now the really bad news is my ability to dive has been revoked by my doctor with strict orders to not do so until it is fully healed. That really doesnt make me happy at all because I have been religiously working on my bouyancy in doubles with stage/deco tanks along with drills for my upcoming Extended Range class. Needless to say this is going to set me back a fair amount. Then also because of the amount of PTO i have burned and still may use till i can put temp disability into effect. I may now not be able to make the august coral spawn trip because of this glitch in the road.

Well I'm a nurse and I HATE doctors too. Especially when they chew me out for calling them after hours because a patient is sick and I'm worried. Ummm isn't that their job?
Good luck tooth. Get well. ~ D

'Tooth, I hope all goes well in the healing process. I know you'll do everything you can to help it along, but you know the body will go at it's own pace.....

I hope you're well enough, and can get the evening of 2/28 off so you can come to the HH!

Beach Junkie - that ain't no joke. BFH was right

well there is some good news. just got done with the surgeon and he didn't have to open it back up and is going to leave it alone. only problem was that he said i have to complete my antibiotics before i can go back to work. which is next Wednesday will be my next shift. let me see what i can do about the Saturday shift but i dont know how successful im going to be but i will do my best to try and make the happy hour.

Now the Dry Tortugas trip is another issue as I will have to discuss that with the division boss to see if i can take this time as unpaid so i dont have to affect my PTO, but will short hours out of two checks. I would prefer the two short checks to loosing the PTO time.

Bummer - at least the doc thinks it will be okay and it didn't balloon into some even nastier strain of staph or something. Best wishes for a smooth recovery.

The strain of bacteria didn't bother me because I know because of my profession the likelihood of picking up so many strains of any germ is extremely high, hence why i wash my hands like 3-5 times a hour with soap and water or purrell like products. I know if they tested me (and even the a majority of the general public) that they would test positive for MRSA and other bacterias they live on our skin, that only become a problem when they enter the body and get sealed in and begin to multiply. Simple was to treat most bacteria is antibiotics. This just happened to be a zit that got infected big time and became the boil from hell.

The antibiotics finish out monday and then i will be released to go back for which my next shift is wednesday of next week. now to get a shift switch to make the Dallas HH on the 28th

Dude,

Take her easy and rest. You will be back up on your feet in no time. No one likes Doctors. Sure we all love to play it, but I doubt anyone enjoys the office visit.

Cheers.

nice ironic choice of words robin.

Hey I have no problems with kiddo doctors as I know there a good crowd (considering most of my transports are to Children's in Dallas) its other doctors that i have problems with (Mainly ones that look down there nose at others)

well the ER doc saw me and did the 3 shots (thanks doc for the 18ga needles in the hip, could you have used like a 22ga or 27ga) in but because they where at saturation it was actually a PA that did the I&D and wound bandaging

the other one is the hole is healing very well so my time out of the water may be reduced as its probably 2-3 weeks away from being sealed over so i can get in the water and resume my training for extended range.
