This is a MUST SEE video I stumbled across on You Tube researching the Sofie the Dog post.

Bless the divers who look out for strangers, regardless of responsibility. I hope the 2 divers learned a valuable lesson, and are now safer divers from that experience.

Guess I'm a cynic, but he was doing an awful lot of filming of his dive computer, so I'm wondering if this was an actual occurrence, or a "dramatization." Not that I doubt those kind of divers are out there, I've seen them. Hell, I've been "buddied" with them before.

A good lesson either way.

Actually, I was thinking the same thing. Who takes a video camera on a dive and spends half the time filming their depth gauge?

I am willing to accept this as real, Prima facie.

The briefed depth was 60 feet and his recording started at 71 so that would fit with him checking how deep the others were (As they were below him at the time). If he had his vidcam recording other things you don't see it as the first part of the video was edited out. Besides, if you are going to make a fake point, taking a 12 year old to 150+ feet is not the best way to do it.

The gauge pressures looked real to me. It looks right too. No overacting or double takes.

That video is a bit sobering, I think.
I, too, really hope those two divers learned a lesson. Otherwise they are serious future candidates for a Darwin award.

Wow, that is ridiculous. Unfortunately, I see similar situations a lot working as a DM on a charter boat. Instructors CANNOT stress enough the importance of diving within your training limits. My students probably get tired of hearing me say it. My tech/cave instructor will actually refuse to teach you any more or at a minimum put you on "scuba time out" (which typically lasts at least 6 months) if he finds out your have diving beyond your certifications. He seriously does this - and I respect him so much for it. (And I'm scared to death to try anything because I KNOW he'll somehow find out - lol).
As for me, I'm feeling pretty scubalicious.

I have my dive computer pre-set with a depth limit well within my certified recreational limits and skill level, and the audible beep if I pass that limit is VERY annoying (to me and everyone else within 20 feet!) so that safeguard works for me.

Most of us have a dive computer. I don't know how many use this feature, if it's available on their model. Please, set your max allowed depth limit for your skill level and then pay attention to it if it beeps!

I keep mine set at 130 unless I'm planning a dive that might take me below that in the deco class I'm taking. But even after that I will keep it set for a depth no more than 10 feet deeper then the max depth planned.

Something that caught my eye was the one gauge in the video was an analog gauge! No computer unless it was on his arm.

I don't have access to V-planner here but I would be interested to see what kind of deco these guys should have done for the dive in the video. Say conservatively 10 min at 70 then a slow trip to 15 then a slow ascent to the surface all on air. :cool2:

Anyone care to run the numbers?

Each wreck has a tale to tell about its life and its demise.

If you are observant while diving in dark places listen to the account each has to tell, You cannot come away unaffected.
