That is the very reason that I like doing Live aboards.... no phones, no computers. No body at work can reach me! :lmao:

Unfortunately that is not really true anymore. :o

I just returned from the Mandarin Siren on a trip from Tobelo Halmahera, Indonesia to Bitung, Indondesia for 10 days. You would think that in this remote area (actually Tobelo was 1 1/2 hours car drive from Kau the closest airport -- took luggage out in hand pulled cart!) that there would be no cell reception.

But then you would be wrong..... I got no less than two phone calls (from the owners Frank and Mark on the Blackberry) asking how I liked the new boat, and "yes" I really do need a voltage converter for my single 110V camera battery charger (that they boat guys then went into Tobelo town and bought one for me!) but the boat has a designated "Boat Blackberry" and we had reception for all the days on the trip except for just 2 days out of the entire 11 days on the boat --- and they were the crossing from Halmahera to Sulawesi days! Plus there was a satellite phone available at a mere $4 a minute for "emergencies" (and I say mere because just 9 years ago, satellite phone service from Wakatobi was a $10/minute bargain!).

While there really was no "internet" at those rates, each cabin has it's own computer. :teeth:

So really the only way to not be available, is to just "tell" everyone there is no phone, as there are phones everywhere now.

We're recovering slowly. We had no phone or internet until we got back to shore btw. We had sharks on several dives, caribbean reef sharks. Wally the black grouper who let you rub his chin. Hawksbill turtles, dolphins, a manta ray besides the usual rays, green moray and spotted eels, white spotted toadfish, and a host of other creatures. Also dove the Blue Hole one morning. No sea life in it but amazing geological formations at 130 fsw.
We all must believe in something... I believe I'll have another beer
