Traveling to some parts of the caribbean were just made even more difficult. Hopefully Southwest with its takeover of Airtran will step up and take up some of the slack..

It will be interesting to see what they will do. Certainly current cities being serviced will remain short term, whether they continue or expand will in all liklihood reamin to be seen.

Airtran flies to only 3 locations outside the continental US (Montego Bay, San Juan, Aruba) and Southwest to none, so I'd suspect that merger will shrink that service rather than grow it.

Continental/United has decent coverage of the Caribbean, so I doubt you'd see their Star Alliance partner US Airways expand outside their limited service (which makes me sad since I can get free upgrades on US :D )

OneWorld is losing some Caribbean access with American's scaling back and the demise of Mexicana, the only other North American OneWorld member.

Delta seems to still have decent coverage.

I'm not sure I see huge issues here unless you're flying out of an American hub or small city that only has American service.

I noticed you are from Denver too. I just joined this site and am looking for fellow divers to go somewhere tropical in December 2010. Can you direct me towards anyone that might be interested?

Thank you!

Christine

Well, there is a trip to Belize through this site for Xmas week. I did that one a couple of years ago and its a good value.

Two weeks ago we had a happy hour as part of the Colorado Dive show. I'm sure we will have another soon. In the meantime if there is something specific, certainly post it here. There is a seperate section for trips where people post looking for dive buddies.

Welcome to the group, Christine!

If you don't want to go to Belize the week between Christmas and New Years, you can have SD.com book your December trip - to wherever - then we allow you to post the trip and ask if anyone wants to tag along! A newfeature, I believe. However, it will work best if you're a Premier Member, so you can have private discussions and exchange info that is not allowed in the public forums.
