I've just spent about a half hour clicking all over pages in this website trying to figure out how to renew.
I would think it would be easier than this for people wanting to give you money!!! LOL

I wish there were better instructions/information for renewing.
I simply want to renew my current membership without upgrading.
The page I found under "Subscriptions" seems to want to force me to upgrade and
it does not give me an option to renew at my current level, which I found strange.

I don't have any more time to mess with this for today....

I was hoping I could have logged in and paid my renewal quickly, and been on with my day! ;-)

Yes, you do have to wait until membership expires before renewing. Until then you can only upgrade.

Is there any way to change this? Many people are pro-active about paying memberships & other bills before they are due, so as not to lose access or benefits. In the case of Premier Memberships, we should allow people to renew when they're, say, 30 days away from expiring if it can be done. Does someone still have to manually update a renewal date on members who renew? If so, it would be nice if the payment process would update that field. I have not had to renew since the new site went live, so I'll have to look at it. We definitely should make renewing as easy as possible.

The old software did not allow us to renew before it expired and it gave no way around this very stupid problem. I thought the current software didn't allow it either but I just checked and the new software does allow us to do this. I set it so you can renew up to 14 days before the expiration date so hopefully this problem will go away now.

Remember to pay by credit card you select post as payment type and use our payment webpage to submit the transaction.

Scott -

Do you have to use a credit card or can you do a direct transfer? Direct transfer seems so much easier!

You can pay by echeck or credit card with the payment gateway. Just make sure you choose post as payment type and then go over to the "make a trip or merchandise payment" link near the top of the page to make the payment. There is no way to plug our payment gateway into the software since the vendor doesn't support it and the ones they do support are too expensive for us to use.

Way to go, Scott! Thank you for finding (and throwing) that 14 day switch! It's better than expiring and then renewing.

I got an email on Feb 17th saying that my membership was about to expire. That I had until March 2 to renew. Then all of a sudden I am no longer a premium member. I looked on my profile and it said my membership expired on Feb 18. Hmmm, one day notice. Even the banks do better than that.

Jim, that's a valid observation and worth reporting. It is annoying that these things happen. Somehow the grace period got set back to 24 hrs. I tried to set it back to two weeks like it is supposed to be. The software is very complex and sometimes it is hard to keep it going the right direction. Thanks for the heads up, if people don't report things we don't necessarily know they are broken.

Hey gang...since we are forced to use out of the box software to run a site to do things it was never designed to do...we are always banging our heads against the wall. :banghead: After doing that enough times you just try to make the best of it and find ANY humor you can and hope others see the same humor. Sometimes that also misses the mark. You also get sensitive to people always being frustrated about things that we can't seem to change or keep changed even after we spend hours and hours of effort trying to figure out in our spare time as a volunteer for SD.com.

So please forgive us for not being able to do the things we want to do to make the site more friendly and of course for our struggles to keep our sanity as be bang our heads against the cyberwalls of this place we call 'home'.

Jim we certainly want you to remain a premier member and we hope you will renew even though you could not do so before your membership expired. Rest assured that we are working on a permanent fix to allow you to renew for up to 2 weeks before the subscription expires. Scott and the other admins have spent countless hours trying to figure out how to make the site more user friendly. Please bear with us as we continue that ongoing and difficult endeavor. And pls forgive for attempting humor at the sheer magnitude of the task that lies before us making SD not only a fun place but an easy place to use, understand and hang out!

:thankyou: Kamala
