Hurricanes terrorize Florida, but California has its own menace from the sea — tsunamis.
They're considerably less frequent, but the punch can be just as devastating: Since 1812, 14 tsunamis have hit the California coast. The worst, linked to an Alaskan earthquake, caused 12 deaths in Northern California and at least $17 million in damage, including damage in the Huntington Beach area, in 1964.
