Just read this brief article on sunscreen. I truly hope they don't use actual coral, and synthesize it instead.

I shutter to think who's the giny pig for this...I'll put my lotion on thank's. The next Headline you'll see is "MAN GROWS CORAL ,fear of mutants"
All humor aside,I agree Tammy. They just can't leave well enough alone.Mother Nature balances itself,by itself.Without humans performing surgery on her.

I have heard of this medicine and it sounds very promising. After all the main difference between people who burn and people who don't is skin pigment, which is internally generated.
I repeatedly see people going out on dive or snorkel boats plastering themselves with oil before they get in the water. I don't know what they think will happen to the oil. What actually happens is that is comes off almost immediately in the sea, and settles on and kills the coral. I have never used suntan oil in the decade since I came to Belize, and that's also true of most white people I know here. To avoid being burned I simply cover up. In the water I wear a lightweight swimming cap when I'm at the surface, which stops my head being burned.

I use Soleo which apparently is reef friendly (I believe Consumer Reports verified this). Since I dive cold water, I only use sunscreen on my forehead, nose and cheeks since everything else is covered in neoprene (well, except for the holes in my wetsuit). In addition to being reef friendly, it is the best sunscreen I've ever used. Wish I'd had it when I was lifeguarding as a younger man.
