Don't know where else to put this sad news.

I've just learned on another board that Opal of Scuba Mau Cozumel passed away, apparently last night.

Since so many SD members go regularly to Coz, I felt you would want the information.

Heard of her, never met her. Very sad. Requiescat in pace et in amore
No aquarium, no tank in a marine land, however spacious it may be, can begin to duplicate the conditions of the sea. And no dolphin who inhabits one of those aquariums or one of those marine lands can be considered normal.

I had heard she and another diver (Gabi) had attempted a bounce dive to 200 ft that ultimately led to her death. Does anyone know if that is true?

I've heard the same stuff you have on ScubaBoard, plus there's a fellow here in DFW who has called down there and spoken with her brother concerning the incident. There's an aspect of the story that everyone appears to be questioning concerning a strong down current, but of course none of us were there.

The speculated story is probably the most plausible, IMO; a pride dive that got out of control for whatever reason and resulted in what transpired. Does anyone know if Gabi is still recovering, and to what extent the prognosis is concerning his recovery?
