A Facebook friend shared this link from a recent 60 Minutes, and I thought that maybe others may be interested in the topic.

Who knew Anderson Cooper had good buoyancy control?

You can find the video HERE.

Thanks for sharing the link, John! Not likely that I'll be one of the lucky few to dive those reefs, so I'm glad I saw them through the video report.

It's in Cuban protected waters....how do Americans go about diving in Cuba?

Pretty much impossible, as far as I can see when checking HERE.

The relevant statement is:

The Cuban Assets Control Regulations are enforced by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and affect all U.S. citizens and permanent residents wherever they are located, all people and organizations physically located in the United States, and all branches and subsidiaries of U.S. organizations throughout the world. The regulations require that persons subject to U.S. jurisdiction be licensed in order to engage in any travel-related transactions pursuant to travel to, from, and within Cuba. Transactions related to tourist travel are not licensable. This restriction includes tourist travel to Cuba from or through a third country such as Mexico or Canada. U.S. law enforcement authorities enforce these regulations at U.S. airports and pre-clearance facilities in third countries. Travelers who fail to comply with Department of the Treasury regulations could face civil penalties and criminal prosecution upon return to the United States.

Anderson Cooper and his 60 minutes crew were able to go because they are legitimately able to prove that they are working journalists on a story assignment--one of the few exemptions that can be approved after review.

While I have a lot of faith in the Wreckwench, this is one I don't see happening until the Cuban Assets Control Regulations are done away with.

Seems we can go there if we follow certain restrictions. I am checking on them as we speak.

Wenchie, if you can pull this one off I am on board. You don't even have to put me on the interested list. It is a go. I have wanted to dive Cuba for ever and it is a must before I kick the bucket..

I've wanted to do this dive for years, and have been ridiculed. Now with the some favorable press, it's being looked into.

Hee! Hee! Its not that..iIts only been recently that I have been exposed to people who have done the Dive from America. I still have to figure out how we can LEGALLY do it as a group! Its one thing to have a few friends sneak into Cuba and do it but its another advertising it as a full blown trip. The current trend is to abolish all barriers with Cuba soon enough so it seems the walls are falling down in terms of it becoming a reality.

A LDS has a group trip planned this coming year, but it didn't fit with my work schedule.

Certainly, we could go to "assist with marine research".

maybe we could go as a group of highly trained and skilled lionfish hunters :clapping:

that would fall under marine conservation and research, right? and we could teach the local how to cook up the catch plus the local government would know how bad the lionfish population is - sounds like a plan to me!
