Howdy,

Looking for recommendations for a liveaboard (or failing that dive resort) in Belize. Anyone had experience with any operators in the area?

Will have a non-diver with me so other activities would be nice.

Cheers.

Shad

Great idea! Ambergris Caye is a small island off the coast of Belize, Amigo Del Mar diveshop will take you out 3 x daily & to the Blue Hole which was cool for a 1-time ever dive (still my deepest dive @ 144' WHERE I saw 2 juv Spotted Drum there under a ledge.) The boats were new, fast with the crew was top notch. SEAduced was an island company that had snorkle trips, the cave float, tons of tours.) Stayed @ the Mayan Princess which was mere steps to the dive shop & boats. Also lots of really fun non-diving (float the bat cave on the mainland, The Jaguar Park, but the island beach was miles long, fun local pubs & restaurants but far from the maddening crowd--so, so fun!) I was there in 2002, so I hope it's still so wonderful. Have fun : )

LDS stayed at Ramon's Village Resort on outskirts of San Pedro town, Ambergris Caye. Nice resort, pool, grounds, dive op. Outside of town so a bit less noise but close enough to walk to town.

The only liveaboard is Aggressor. I can book you if you like...they may be running some specials depending on when you want to go.

AC or Ambergris Caye is a lovely little island and we've run a number of trips there. Very good diving for the diver and a number of things for the non-diver as well as things for both of your to do.

We have several operators on the island who would LOVE to take exceptional care of you for a great price.

Check out our last couple of trips...

My 'Spawn' [TxAggieDiver] and I did our 'Advanced' in San Pedro with Amigos del Mar and stayed at Mayan Princess. For convenience MP is located next to the dock for AdM, but most places in SP are within a short walking distance. The Mayan Princess is a condo rental, the room we were in had a furnished kitchenette to prepare meals. The only problem I had was it was located less than 100 yards down the beach from Fido's, a popular restaurant and watering hole, their music could be heard through the open door to the balcony, until midnight when they closed. AdM is probably the largest dive operator in SP, I believe they also supply the air & EAN to most of the resorts on the island. Both MP & AdM are located in 'downtown' SP so there are plenty of shops and restuarants in the area. If your friend decides to go snorkeling please stay to the restricted swimming areas, as there is heavy boat traffic around the piers and in the waterway between the beach and barrier reef.
There are plenty of tour operators in SP, who can book you for day long trips to the main land to go 'tubing' or to vist the Mayan ruins at Lamanai [17o 45' 37" N, 88o 38' 45" W], great for a 'no fly' day.

Here's the 'vistors bureau' site with more info.

If your'e interested in renting a little cottage away from 'downtown', you may want to look at VRBO.

Personally, when I go back, I'll go to Glover's Reef [16o 43' 00" N, 87o 50' 25" W] and stay at Isla Marisol

Hope this helps, have fun

Bill

Dug thru some old picts, here's just how close AdM is to MP

Feel like 'gambling'? Buy a square, the odds are 100 to 1.

Thank you Bill! Nice recaps!

They probably need a few more things to do than what Glover's offers and they will get that on the liveaboard they are looking at as well. :cool1:
