How do I avoid those exp. single supplements?

Q: One question I did have for you is how are accomodations worked out for double rooms? I have never done one of these trips before so I was a little leary of bunking up with someone I didn't know right off...lol.
Q: If I were to go, would there be someone available to share a room with so I could get the trip at a cheaper rate? I've not experienced one of these trips before and am a little shy on knowledge of them.
Great question on the rooming. First off I send out a mini-survey to folks that asks about snoring...smoking...drinking...diving and other preferences etc. This helps me to get to know you. I also talk with you via email and on the phone so that I get to know you better. And since I'm doing this with everyone on the trip, I get to know you all REALLY well before we go. I then start to put personalities together and I have tons of people who have commented that I have an instinctive knack for matching up great roommates who usually end up great friends. We all arrive as strangers but with several "Meet and Greets" and the pre-trip get together we try to have and the email correspondence....you won't be strangers for long.
Some guys tell me hey if you can match me up ok with someone who is ________ then do so otherwise I'll do the single upgrade but I want to wait til the end to decide. I say "No problem...I do this all the time!" And I do...and it works out great. If you are an extremely tidy person who goes to bed early...I won't pair you up with someone who is the opposite and stays out late all night or vice versa.
So a good part of the fun of this trip is that most of our divers will be singles like you and me. We allow married people who are buddyless and the June trip is a mixed trip in that respect! However single people usually have a whole lot more fun on a trip like this with other singles rather then all married people or couples...not always but usually.
So feel free to bring a friend if you can....but if you can't...don't worry about it. I have tons of good comments and feedback from people who have dove with me on trips before that I can share with you or you can read many of them right on the website under "What Singles are Saying"...those are all real quotes from people on the January trip and on this board. (In fact I think I've done well with every roomming assignment except for one...and in that case they still bust each other's chops good naturedly...) In any event....on the January trip....no one knew anyone else but they all left as wonderful friends and helped to found this site. Most of them still stay in contact with one another and yes...we even had a few 'cupid connections' on the trip...several of which have lasted well after the trip! Although romance is not the focus of the trip...it certainly is a nice surprise for those involved!
I hope that answers your questions....please let me know if I can answer anything else for you!!! Kamala aka "Wreck Wench"

I imagine that I'm pretty difficult to match up, 50-something year old smoker, who has lived alone for more than 2 decades, and who travels with a small dive store as checked luggage. But then, I can try to be a courtesou roomie...NOTE: If you have dove with me before either on a Singles Trip or one of my North Carolina Wreckdiving trips....please feel free to comment on how roomming arrangements and/or buddy arrangements worked out on our trips!! I do draw the line, though, when my designated roomie borrows my nail clippers and hair brush, then steals my beer. Single Room rates for dive trips are not a big penalty, nothing like on a cruise. Usually worth the privacy for one used to it.
Yeah I know: I've been branded a non-group person - doesn't play well with others. I am so upset. Let me know if you want to have some fun, without the drama - I'm good for that.

Only a SMALL dive shop? That's why I drive to most of my destinations. With extra tanks and my stage bottle, my "dive shop" tends to BE my roomate.I imagine that I'm pretty difficult to match up, 50-something year old smoker, who has lived alone for more than 2 decades, and who travels with a small dive store as checked luggage. Let's see... tools, four regs, tanks (if driving), camera, laptop,...... :Braces for a long night if he actually has to take inventory: ....
I don't mind roomates, but I have one at home in the form of my brother and sometimes I am happy to get the privacy. Most of my dive buddies get single rooms as well, so I don't have dive buddies up to split expenses with on room costs. I am somewhat used to it, unfortunately.

However that same roommate has been great buds with you and you've helped him since the trip to buy dive gear...and a host of other things! So I guess you forgive easily as well!!I imagine that I'm pretty difficult to match up, 50-something year old smoker, who has lived alone for more than 2 decades, and who travels with a small dive store as checked luggage. So got any extra beer around??? I was looking for it in Cozy and you had it pretty well hidden!! LOL!!!
P.S. you are right...for many the extra privacy is great...but for some its the difference between making the trip or not diving at all!!

Well put, for up here, typically I prefer the privacy. I can't afford a Caribbean trip without losing the single supplement. I do too much travelling to make any one trip that expensive. And, I do like warm water diving as well.

I know I always do the roommate thing for the same reason...saving MONEY...heck we are only sleeping and I don't need much of that when I spend all my time diving!!!

I do worry about snoring sometimes...but I tell my roomy to just hit me upside the head if they catch me doing it!!! LOL!!! Whoops...now I'll never get a roommate!!

I went to apply for a diving event that is in another state. The fee to have a room to myself (Single Supplement in our parlance) was another 2/3 the price of the event. I got fortunate to find a roomate, but these things don't just apply to the ocean trips.
I'll be happy when we grow and can offer this type of service to regional stuff as well.
And WW, I sleep pretty restlessly anyways (but soundly), so your snoring wouldn't bother me.
Oops, I'm male, never mind. :anna:

No problem...we can fix you right up! In fact I think I have several people alone going to Bonaire that would be perfect roommates for you!! LOL!!So what can you do for an insomniac, alcoholic, chain-smoking, drug-using, gender-confused kleptomaniac with Turrette's syndrome? OK, I mean they're more hobbies than habits.........

Actually I'm the kind of person who travels fairly often and is used to having my own room. After my last trip rooming with SuperDave I found it to actually be pretty fun. Like said...We didnt spend a whole lot of time in our room and I had a great running buddy...Of course I have been told I snore pretty good at times. SD said he just yelled at me...I didnt wake up but he said I did shut up!!!!

Hey a dive belt to the side of the head will stop anybody from snoring. After being in the military for years I can room with anybody (sex, age, species doesn't matter). If it has to be a guy I do prefer margarita sipping smokers with no common sense for midnight snorkeling adventures.
Really I have been pretty lucky on my last two trips to Coz with some stellar roomies.
