Little Cayman is a VERY tiny island with only a few non-diving activities...

SCOOTER ISLAND TOUR:

 

This is one of many reason that I continue to travel and dive with SingleDivers.com! WE DIVE ON FRIDAY MORNING!  The fewer non-dive days the better. :-)

 

So, I'll correct my  original post to say ---  'the Friday non-diving afternoon/evening'.

http://www.scootenscooters.com/   They have a $35US rate for three hours, which is plenty of time to see the tiny island which is why I only mentioned Friday afternoon. The scooter website mentions that they partner with the Little Cayman Beach Resort, so it might be easier for the resort to handle the reservations.

 

GUIDED BUS ISLAND TOUR:

 

Or you can do a guided bus tour Friday afternoon. It is about $35 US and is 2-3 hours or so.

I have requested more from the resort. Its something that is done adhoc. As soon as I have more details I will let you know. Its a VERY small island. Bur when in Rome...you should see it if you can! You may never pass that way again!

Greetings Little Cayman Lovers!  

 

Back in April 2016, SD made a great connection at Beneath the Sea (annual dive expo in Secaucus NJ).   One of the guests to stop by our booth was from CCMI/Reef Research.org based in Little Cayman.   She was thrilled to connect with us and learn about our upcoming Sept 2016 trip (she was also keen on our spiffy tee shirts!).  

 

Their work is truly impressive and so important as Little Cayman is considered a pristine reef (as a result of limited island population these reefs are not impacted by fertilizer run off, urban pollutants, far from any mainland, etc).  

 

CCMI hosts many guest researchers throughout the year who provide lectures about ongoing research, CCMI, conservation efforts and current marine conditions on the Little Cayman reefs, on a weekly basis at the Southern Cross resort.    As our group is fairly large, CCMI has offered to come to LCBR for SD on Thursday evening (8 September).   The specific researcher and discussion topic – currently TBA.  

 

We’ll then have the opportunity to visit the research center on Friday 9 September (dry day afternoon) at 2 pm to see their work first hand.

Great news everyone – CCMI/LCRC (Central Caribbean Marine Institute/Little Cayman Research Center)  has confirmed their guest researcher will visit us on Thursday 8 September at 8 pm at LCBR.   The research team is excited to tell us more about their work with climate change and the impact on coral reefs, the invasive Indo-Pacific lionfish, ongoing efforts to recover local Nassau grouper populations and other issues impacting the Cayman reefs.  The presentation will run about an hour (or less) and be held in the “Grouper Room” at LCBR.    All are welcome. 

 

CCMI/LCRC has also invited us to their weekly “open house” at the research center.    Our personal tour is set for Friday 9 September (dry day) afternoon at 2:30 pm.   This is a great opportunity to see CCMI/LCRC research facilities and get an inside look into their current research programmes onsite.    A signup sheet will be circulated and transportation arranged.

Hey gang...I have not had a chance to look into the scooters... I'm sorry. Please plan to do it when you get on island and let us know what you find out so others can join in if they want too!

 

Please do not go Thursday evening as Helen aka fishfriend has done an amazing job setting up a presentation for us as part of our weekly entertainment.

 

Friday is an optional tour so might also be a scooter day for those not into seeing the research center on the island.
