TO HOOK OR NOT TO HOOK:
A few of our dives will be 'current dives' where we hang in the current to watch the sharks. (Similar to Blue Corner in Palau for those who are familiar with that.) The use of a reef hook is usually essential to enjoying this type of dive. HOWEVER most of our dives will NOT be shark dives so you have the following choices:
- rent one for about $10
- buy one for about $35 (and have a reminder of the boat)
- borrow or buy one in the US
- skip it since we are only doing a few dives that would need one
Any choice will work. Just wanted you to know your options.
HOW TO USE A REEF HOOK:
Jump off boat and dive quickly to the bottom into the current. Find a rock or dead coral and just clip off the clip end to your bc and,the hook the hook end on a rock. Inflate your BC and you essentially sail like a kite in place as all the critters around you feed.
When time to leave REMOVE AIR from BC first so you do not shoot up like a rocket to the surface and then unclip and either wrap up your reef hook as you are now floating with the current or shove in a bc pocket until back on the boat.
