Should we allow from time to time (especially when we are super busy opening trips or short staffed) to create non diver spots as an 'add on' or should be keep them as a pkg where they have their own trip in their their own MY TRIPS?

 

When its a snorkeler who's active like Karen Smith aka KSue44 its easy...gotta make it a pkg. so we have the waiver and forms filled out etc.

 

Where its harder to decide is when its a non diving spouse like Steve aka SoonerDiver's wife?

 

• Its more work to set up as pkg vs add on.
• There is nothing to trigger getting a waiver from that person...nor will we have full name info etc. (we would have to rely on the spouse to provide us everything we need)
• Its possible we may forget to configure inventory correctly because we did not control how many could be added like we can with pkgs

 

What other issues must we look at? And should we maybe 'try it' once and see how it works? Or just do it the way we typically do it?

I think the outweighing factor goes to your mention of how difficult it could easily become to keep up with room allocations if the Spouse ND is an Add On. I see no alternative other than to continue as we have been creating ND packages.

Here is another reason why we should stick with packages vice Add Ons:

 

While rooming reservations with the resort would not be such a big deal in the +1 Spouse ND scenario, we do have a few ND members like Karen aka KSue44 who sometimes want to book S/O. There is no way I see to reliably link and decrement the S/O room allocation in Inventory without a trip package to apply to that specific item. Although offering souse ND in certain scenarios could save time and effort in the build out phase, managing inventory manually and on the fly would be a significant and almost always time sensitive burden on the Booking System Managers...

Yes I thought thru the post in the first place...I was thinking of Karen and realizing that we may save time with 'one' person but create other issues with others. Tks for the follow up insight.

Both a "package" and a "Add on" requires us to create a SKU.

 

It is a little more work on the front end to make it a package, but far less work for the team to keep track of a person through Add-ons.  And it also creates a lot of work outside the system to keep track of things like waivers etc as mentioned above.

 

I hate setting up too much stuff for "Just in Case", because it is frustrating to create a lot of room packages and/or add-ons that NEVER get used.   But IF you think there is a good chance you will have a non-diver in the mix (DO or SO) please add it from the beginning.   It is easier for us to created multiple packages at trip buildout than it is to add one later.  But also put some inventory against it so people can book right away.  It is much easier to quickly update inventory than to "quickly" create a package for someone.

The example that generated this topic was Steve aka SoonerDiver's wife for Roatan. As you know I requested the pkg BUT still do not have the pricing. I will push for that AGAIN today. Everyone is slammed getting ready for DEMA so its hard.

Don't know how I missed this other than my world is upside down now.  Package is the only reasonable way to go.  You are just throwing matches on a bonfire to do that as an addon for all the reasons above plus the ensuing burnout of the staff trying to manage it.
