Hi everyone,

Im new here and new to scuba. I am getting my certification right now out of Cincinnati, Ohio. Im a young guy (22) looking for some dive buddies so I can jump right in after certification. Im more than happy to dive with anyone. Experience is my main concern at the moment. However, I do think it would be nice to meet young divers too! After all Im the only one around here my age that I know who does scuba. Thanks for reading and have a good one!

Hi Mitch and welcome to SingleDivers.com!  

 

Getting experience SHOULD be your number one objective now you have your certification. Our dive club has been going for about 20 years now so many of our divers are no longer in their 20's....or 30's. LOL!!!  However many do remember what  its like to be new to the sport and needing to rack up some bottom time and experience.

 

Even when our more mature members are newly certified ...their life's hard work and sacrifices can usually reward them with the ability to do their 'practice dives if you will' in warm water and more luxurious locales such as Cozumel, Bonaire, etc.

 

So your best bet for close to home and quick dive buddy ops is to find driving venues near you (most likely where you got certified at) to keep practicing. Almost every local diving venue has its own meet up group or an online way to find local dive buddies wanting to get some much needed skills and practice time in.

 

And while we are working on developing a younger group of "SingleDivers" ...,. most of our divers are no longer in their 20's. I am in no way trying to dissuade you from joining us... BECAUSE we do have members in their 20's and they GO DIVING WITH US!!!  But they are no longer the largest part of the membership but rather the exception...hence the work to develop a younger group.  When we get the younger group we will reach out to you and let you know since you are in our system now.

 

In the meantime please feel free to browse around the forums and check out topics of interest to you. Or if you can't find what you are looking for... you can start a new topic. And of course if you want to rack up some experience in a beautiful venue check our trips (the link in my signature line).  We do have a forum for finding local dive buddies but forums are not usually what 20 something year olds use technology wise so I"m not sure how successful it will be but nothing ventured...nothing gained. Go for and hopefully others will see it and do the same!

  Mitch and    to the awesome world of Singledivers.com!!!  How exciting for you and congrats on your certification     As Kamala said, most of us are no longer in our 20's or 30's, but it is so fun to watch the new divers get their skills on track and really have soooo much fun diving!    Kamala and crew put together fabulous trips and many of the up and coming trips in the Caribbean are perfect for getting your fins wet and learning.   Hope to see you on a trip soon.
