We have not done anything with kids yet...not sure how many people on the site even have young children.

You might want to post a poll or a thread in the General Diving forum and ask how many of our members are parents and what are their ages. Also ask if they are the primary caregiver since that makes a big difference. And finally ask if they'd like to be able to bring their children along on a dive trip with them if there were plenty of activities for them!

Great questions! -ww

My boys are 9 & 11 and I have them 1/2 time. Genesis has an 8 year old girl with him all the time except when she is at school. Anyone else with kids out there that wants to dive and take turns topside making sure the kids don't kill each other???

Well I don't know how others feel, but I would be willing to help out if someone brought their kids...

That is awesome. Thanks. If there are enough folks with kids we should have separate adult activities (especially for those on the trip that are kidless). Of course we could use some kids as birth control! LOL!!! My boys are not bad except when they are fighting like brothers...

What a great subject fun2dive! As a single father of three children who has them all of the time, I can definitely relate. Even though mine are older now and can typically fend for themselves, I think it would be a great idea just to plan a trip that accomodates the kids. I'm sure it would make the process easier for many people who may not have other accomodations. I would gladly volunteer to "play" with the kids, having never quite grown up myself. :teeth:

Great question!

My daughter is six, so this is still an issue for me as well. I am excited though, that she wants to be a diver. So, soon enough she will jest get to jump right in.

Many hotels offer a babysitting service for a fee. Also, I try to plan my Florida trips so that my mom is home and not out scouting the world. Do you have a babysitter that you use regularly? It is possible to even bring a babysitter on a vacation (or course, nothing too expensive)

I am interested to see some other ideas as well!

That's a really cool idea. I'm sure you could find a responsible high school junior or senior (from Indiana anyway. I'm from Kokomo, BTW) who would love to accompany someone to FL. It's a fair trade, I think. While we're diving, watch 6-8 kids just to be sure they don't mame each other. In exchange, you get the rest of the days to yourself exept for a couple of evenings out. Very interesting thoughts...

It would be great if something like this could be parlayed (sp?) over multiple members who'd like to take their kid(s) on an SD trip.

Great Idea! something is cooking here. I too have children 1/2 of the time 9 & 12 year old girls. The idea of a trip with the kids is great however. Especially in the company of others who face the same dilemna on supervision and are like minded with diving as a priority. What better way to show by example what the underwater world has to offer. I am hoping the 12 year will soon start some lessons and get some opportunities to certify. So hard in the frozen north country with limited visibility. Diving for me has always been for adults and the kids stay with grandparents, however this is a new concept that makes sense. As with anything else, time and money will be limiting factors. Keep posting..

My son's 6 and bringing him on a dive would be great. Hehas 4 more years before he can actually dive, but he loves the water. It would be great way to introduce him to diving while making new friends when he's with me.

Vinny,

It's none of my business, but if I were you, I'd look long and hard at all the issues before letting my 10 year old dive.
