Certified 50 years ago at Instructor level, had about 100 students in 70s while in grad school. Mostly occasional research diving since then. Looking to do some bucket list trips while still healthy. But don't have the bucket list finalized! What's a good one to start off with in the Caribbean or Bahamas? I've had my share of low-vis dives and want to see healthy reefs. Based in SC.

Tim and to the awesome world of Singledivers.com The best place for buddyless divers. Kamala and crew have lots of trips that would be a possible fit for your bucket list. 2023 Best of Mexico Cozumel, Dominica. 2024 Cozy again, Belize, Bonaire and Roatan. These are all great trips. Cuba was a great trip. Vis was off and on, but the reefs are incredibly healthy. Good to see. We had some really friendly Goliath Groupers that obviously liked our diving style, they just hung with us. Please check out our trips and hope you are on one soon.

Howdy... always start at the bottom and work your way up... so Bahamas can be a good start BUT MOSTLY IF YOU WANT THE SHARKS and parts of the Caribbean can be a good start. Parts of the Caribbean are as good as anywhere in the world but parts can be easily skipped. The primo diving in the Carribbean is Cozumel, Dominica, Cuba ...with Roatan offering exceptional diving...SOME of the Caymans... Little and Brac being the best...
Then you start to move to Galapagos and Cocos...
Then to Philippines or Fiji
Then to Red Sea, Maldives culminating in Indonesia.
Many of these bucket list trips are on our annual dive roster each year. We hope you give them and us a try!

Hello Tim, and welcome to SingleDivers from a fellow South Carolinian. I found this group about 13 years ago, and have done many trips with them since. I am currently up in N.C. for a week of diving the wrecks with the group and just signed up for a return trip to Cuba with them as well. Where in Carolina are you? Ed

I am on Hilton Head, so not really close. Hopefully you find a trip that interests you, and we meet there.

I used to be in the upstate about a mile from Lake Jocasee. Columbia is nice.

What personal dive gear are most people bringing on your trips these days? I'm from the days when we would bring our own regulators, too.

HI Tim, most that I dive with have all their own gear, including regulator and dive computer. i have owned mine for many years and am way more comfortable diving with my stuff opposed to renting. Wuite a few newbies rent gear until they find their comfort gear. Just sayin'

I will second what Kathy said. I always bring my own gear, as do most. It seems like every trip that Kamala runs has a section for renting gear, and occasionally someone goes that route. I try and find ways to make the weight allowance on flights work, by scaling some stuff down as well as being very heavy with my carry on to allow me to bring all the gear.
