OK, lets make a deal. If you stop telling me how to dive, I'll stop going down to the bus station at 2am to slap d***s out of your mouth.

The article mentions chloroquine. The same side effects are noted for that drug as well. It should be taken for 2 weeks prior to entering an endemic area. I asked why and the reason had nothing to do with malaria prevention. It was so the person could be monitored for psychologicial changes....just in case. I was going on leave, and not being deployed, so I couldn't be ordered to take the drug. I had studied the WHO publications as well as our donor deferral mandates for where I was going and refused the drug.

And it is not a bunch of hype. I know what questions to ask. A non-medical person tends to trust the medical people. And unfortunately, the military medical communitry for whatever reason is not always forthcomming with the information and training on the meds we are giving as we should be.

better to take it and not need it, than need it and not have it

so far in OIF and OEF, the only people who have gotten malaria are the ones who refused to take the pills.

they are now paying the price, and i hope they are enjoying it

Hey Jamie, I missed this thread first time around and now the URL won't load. Can you find another one, or tell me what it said? I did catch malaria some years ago and have an ongoing interest in it. I do know of one drug that was introduced as a wonder drug against malaria, which had the most fearsome effects, many permanent. I'm just wondering if this drug is the subject of the article.
