A recent thread entitled "Seems Reasonable to me" spoke about a number of current and relevant topics including death rates in Iraq as compared to crime death rates in some of our larger cities; environmental concerns; etc.

It also, albeit in jest, spoke about 'killing liberals', 'gun control'; and a host of other divisive topics, us/them rants, and you/I arguments.

In reality none of these subjects are funny, nor do they have anything to do with diving which is the focus of our site. SingleDivers.com is a politically neutral site and will remain that way.

Rather than attempt to moderate many of them individually, I have opted to remove the entire thread as the value of the thread does not outweigh the time spent moderating it and most of the topics are disallowed on the site under our current site rules and policies.

Our attempts at moderation are based upon what someone 'may' find offensive given subject matter and experience to date on the site. And we often get pm’s from members saying that although they do not wish to post to the contrary, they do not agree with what has been posted yet they believe that if it is left standing it implies that everyone agrees with it. Should someone find a post objectionable we will always respond accordingly. After all...we are here to have fun...not push the boundaries to see where and when our members will take offense.

Often if we allow a seemingly harmless but borderline post to remain it in turn prompts another seemingly harmless but borderline post and very soon you have a thread that has deteriorated into personal attacks, barbs, flaming, rants and arguments. And often a member will see these 'gray' posts so to speak and feel that they have been attacked and will therefore post a retort, or defense and once again we find ourselves in controversy.

We are a young site with 1400 users but only 3 mods. We still have the energy and enthusiasm and ability to explain our actions unlike larger sites that have thousands of members and grow weary of handling the same issues over and over again.

Please review the the site rules and policies so as to prevent further issues with 'gray area, marginal and outright disallowed' material. And please keep in mind that SingleDivers.com is about having fun diving! So let's go get wet!!!
