I got this letter from Hal and Jan this morning. I post it for your information and any comments you wish to make. It is also posted in the training committee forum. That is also where I will be posting the suggested Instructor Standards and suggested Pricing and Instructor Pay Schedule for comments (For instructors who wish to teach on our trips). Your input would be greatly appreciated. Kamala and I get together bi-weekly (tri-weekly? quad-weekly?--Oh heck!! We have dinner at her house every night or two to cuss and discuss these issues. We'd like as much input as we can get before a final standard is issued. Thanks for your help.

SDI/TDI Instructors using 40 Fathom Grotto

It has been brought to my attention that PSA will not be named as an additional insured under
the SDI/TDI insurance policy for the upcoming year. Since I own The Grotto and controlling
interest in Professional Scuba Association, Inc., this affects my liability exposure.

Several PSA instructors, who are also TDI, have contacted the Willis insurance agency to
confirm this and asked why. The answer they received from the agency was, "We do not know
why". PSA, in the past was listed as approved additional insured. I spoke with TDI
Headquarters and requested that they reconsider this decision as it will be of no benefit to you
the instructor or the dive industry.

The intent of this E-mail is to advise TDI/SDI instructors that if International Training does
not reverse this decision, TDI/SDI instructors will no longer be permitted to teach at our dive
site. For me to allow teaching here and not being protected with the insurance would expose
Jan and me to the "Deep Pockets" theory.

However...there is an option that will allow you to use our facility. You may cross-over to
PSA and obtain your insurance through Insurance Management Services. (please contact PSA
Headquarters for information). On this policy you can list TDI/SDI as an additional insured, as
well as listing PSA.

We (Jan and I) hope that International Training Inc. will reverse their decision. We realize
that not having 40 Fathom Grotto available for your instructional needs will place a strain on
your ability to provide a safe, consistent, and convenient environment for your students. We
also appreciate the benefits of allowing you to make business decisions based upon your
business needs.

It is with much regret that we have been left with no other option. Please contact TDI
Headquarters and impress upon them the impact of their decision.

Regards,

Hal and Jan Watts

I am sure that Narwhal would be happy to have the help. Those of us that have volunteered are part of the training comittee. We discuss issues related to training that SD.com encourages people to have and will be able to provide on trips and outings.

You may want to send a PM to Tolly, Narwhal, Walter, and/or Kamala to ask further.
